A retired IT analyst has become the seventh person to win the \u00a31m (\u20ac1.15m) jackpot on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?<\/p>\n

Roman Dubowski said winning the ITV game show, which is hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, was \u201cunreal\u201d, adding that he \u201chad to have a cup of tea\u201d afterwards.<\/p>\n

The contestant is planning on buying a new house with his prize money and also hopes to travel and visit destinations including New Zealand and South America.<\/p>\n

Can you answer all 15 questions?<\/p>\n

Mr Dubowski, who is originally from Manchester but now lives just outside Stockport, correctly answered Bass Ale.<\/p>\n

He said that Clarkson, 66, had given him some \u201cvery good\u201d advice about using the 50\/50 lifeline which had \u201cstayed with me throughout the show\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to Mr Dubowski, Clarkson told him that the lifeline should be used when you have got an \u201cinkling\u201d that one or two of the answers are correct.<\/p>\n

Asked to describe how he felt when he answered that final question correctly, he said: \u201cIt felt unreal\u2026 it didn\u2019t feel like the real world, almost, this isn\u2019t where I expected to be.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt didn\u2019t sink in until later.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the show, Mr Dubowski experienced a \u201cstrange bit of self-doubt\u201d after he was asked what is mixed with vinegar, mustard and oil to make a basic mayonnaise.<\/p>\n

The possible answers were plain flour, salted butter, egg yolk and double cream.<\/p>\n

Mr Dubowski said that cooking is one of his \u201cweaker points\u201d and he made the decision to use the ask the audience lifeline for help answering, with 93% opting for the correct answer \u2014 egg yolk.<\/p>\n

The contestant said that in that moment he thought he \u201cmight go and walk away with nothing\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mr Dubowski said: \u201cThat was like, you know, shame and humiliation almost, so I had to put it to the audience.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Asked what he did after the show ended, he said: \u201cI did sort of go home quietly, to be honest, I didn\u2019t get drunk \u2014 I had to have a cup of tea.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it was just sitting in a quiet room and letting it all sink in, and thinking about what happened in the previous 24 hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Dubowski said the first person he told about the win was his sister, adding that she was \u201cabsolutely thrilled\u201d for him.<\/p>\n

He said he will be giving some of his prize money to his niece and nephew. Mr Dubowski said he had \u201calways\u201d wanted to appear on the game show and had even applied to it when Chris Tarrant was the host \u2014 but said he \u201cdidn\u2019t get a response\u201d.<\/p>\n

The retired IT worker also applied after covid, but was not successful.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cThen in October last year, I suddenly saw an advertisement, or something online saying they\u2019re recruiting for new competitors again.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought oh, might as well try again, got nothing to lose, and just from that sort of casual opening, it ended up with the top prize.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo (I\u2019m) just happy I did it really.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked what advice he has for other quizzers, Mr Dubowski recommended they read a book called A To Z Of Everything by Trevor Montague.<\/p>\n

Prior to Mr Dubowski\u2019s win, only six contestants in the British version of the show had won the \u00a31m prize.<\/p>\n

The most recent was Donald Fear in 2020<\/a>, who answered all 15 questions correctly with three lifelines remaining.<\/p>\n
