Clooney compared the backlash directed toward Kimmel to another remark by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt that was taken out of context. \n\t\u201cJimmy\u2019s a comedian, and I would argue that Karoline Leavitt didn\u2019t mean shots should be fired,\u201d Clooney said. \u201cShe was making a joke. Fair enough. You look at that side and go, \u2019Well, jokes are jokes.\u2019 But the rhetoric is a little dangerous. And we\u2019ve seen it a lot lately.\u201d The actor said that hyperbolic rhetoric \u201ccan be toned down\u201d and that \u201cwhen one side is calling anyone they disagree with traitors to the country, which is a charge that\u2019s punishable by death, just because they don\u2019t agree with someone, I think the rhetoric is a little too heated.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tClooney also decried political violence <\/a>of any kind. \u201cI disagree with everything that this administration stands for, but there\u2019s no place for the kind of violence we saw two nights ago in Washington, D.C.
