Liam Gallagher<\/a> has taken aim at Manic Street Preachers<\/a> and Suede<\/a>, saying that both are \u201cshit\u201d, \u201clack swagger and style\u201d and \u201cdress like estate agents\u201d.<\/p>\n

The comments come following the two bands announcing co-headline UK arena tour<\/a> for 2026 recently, which will see them hit the road again following a run of joint North American shows in 2022<\/a> and a UK trek in 2024<\/a>. They toured together back in 1994 too.<\/p>\n

It marks the biggest collaboration to date for the groups, but when asked if he has seen the announcement, Liam Gallagher was quick to share that he had no interest in the tour.<\/p>\n

\u201cFuck them,\u201d he wrote on X, before being asked by fans why he felt that way despite being friendly with the Manics over the years and touring with them multiple times.<\/p>\n

The Manics acted as the primary support for Oasis\u2019<\/a>s first-ever stadium headlining shows in Manchester in 1996, and also joined them for their two massive concerts at Balloch Castle Country Park and at the iconic Knebworth gigs later that year. 1996 also saw James Dean Bradfield<\/a> and co. join them for their US tour, which Oasis cancelled halfway through.<\/p>\n

In 2021, Manics bassist and lyricist Nicky Wire told NME<\/a> about what it was like to be a part of that infamous US tour, and recalled how it led to a feud between Liam\u00a0and Mark Lanegan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was in catering, and Liam was calling them something like The Barking Branches and The Crazy Conkers. Mark was a very bruised individual at that point,\u201d Wire shared. \u201cIt was a great tour. We just sat back and watched Oasis teetering on the edge and cancelling gigs. For once, we were the stable part of the touring party! It was the first time we\u2019d had success on a global scale and we were enjoying it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Manics also described the Oasis 1996 gigs as \u201csome of the best gigs [they\u2019ve] ever seen\u201d in an interview with Radio X, and added that the Britpop giants were capable of making stadiums \u201cshake\u201d with energy in a way they had never seen before.<\/p>\n

Speaking to NME last year about their shared history<\/a>, Wire said: \u201cWe come from quite an important era, and that means something to me. It\u2019s an era that people might not recognise now, and if I try to describe how much music ruled people\u2019s lives \u2013 especially after 1995-1996.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nice to hear a big echo of it again. Oasis are the band who made the world sing. I was in a choir until I was 15 years old, so I like to hear people singing. They\u2019re a band that transcend their own time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liam also toyed with the idea of Manic Street Preachers joining Oasis for their huge \u2018Live \u201825\u2019 comeback tour<\/a> in 2024, hinting that he was stuck between inviting Manics or The Verve\u2019s Richard Ashcroft.<\/p>\n

\u201cRichard Ashcroft or Manic street preachers as support\u201d he told fans, discussing plans for their US leg of the tour, before adding shortly after: \u201cthe manics it is\u201d.<\/p>\n

However, he went on to write: \u201cOnly kidding, we never set sail without the one and only RICARDO he\u2019s our boy from day DOT come aboard Rkid.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Suede, the two bands never toured together, but were both dominant in the \u201890s Britpop scene, with Suede being praised as helping ignite the movement in the early \u201890s, while Oasis took things to new heights with their 1994 debut album \u2018Definitely Maybe\u2019.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the Oasis reunion last year, Liam Gallagher<\/a> hit out at Suede after a fan asked if the band would be supporting<\/a> them. \u201cNot happening,\u201d he replied, adding that the group were \u201ctoo cocky esp[ecially] that singer [Brett Anderson<\/a>]\u201d.<\/p>\n

While he didn\u2019t expand further, it seems likely that the comments stemmed from Anderson\u2019s past comments about Britpop<\/a>, when he described the \u201990s genre as a \u201claddish, distasteful, misogynistic, nationalistic cartoon\u201d<\/a> in 2019 and wanted to \u201cdistance Suede from that\u201d.<\/p>\n

The singer was also asked if he had once described Oasis as \u201cthe singing plumbers\u201d in the \u201990s, to which he responded: \u201cWell you know, I might have said that 25 years ago, but I\u2019m not going to try and justify things I said a long, long time ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liam later hit back at the remarks<\/a>, writing: \u201cCheck this shit out regarding this Britpop nonsense. I hear Burt out of Suede has said it was very laddish. See I disagree, I thought it was the opposite \u2013 I thought it was very BLOUSEY, which is why I distanced myself from it. LG x.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also said at the time that \u201cThe Verve pissed all over Suede\u201d, and claimed that the former and Oasis \u201cwere on a different cloud\u201d during the Britpop era. \u201cIf it wasn\u2019t for Britpop you\u2019d never have heard of Suede,\u201d Liam argued. \u201cThat\u2019s my problem a lot of those bands it helped.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to NME last year about their latest album \u2018Antidepressants\u2019<\/a>, Anderson said:\u201dI\u2019m really proud of the kind of position we seem to have found ourselves in, in the musical landscape. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any other band of our generation that are still making records as vital as the records we\u2019re making.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s any other band that look at making records as something other than a souvenir for a tour or something like that. I feel that we\u2019re still making exciting music, pushing our sound and not just stuck as a self-parody. I never wanted to be the kind of band that rests on their laurels.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking back over their legacy as the inadvertent and reluctant pioneers of \u2018Britpop\u2019, Anderson added: \u201cI\u2019m proud of the \u201890s stuff we did, but I don\u2019t think about it all the time. What I think about is this record and the next one.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Manics and Suede\u2019s UK dates kick off at Glasgow\u2019s OVO Hydro on October 28, ahead of stops at Leeds\u2019 First Direct Bank Arena, Manchester\u2019s Co-op Live, Cardiff\u2019s Utilita Arena, and London\u2019s O2.<\/p>\n
