<\/p>\nBenjamin Sesko has backed the temporary coach to be appointed on a permanent basis after guiding them to the brink of Champions League qualification.<\/p>\n
United’s 2-1 home win over Brentford on Monday left them third in the Premier League standings, 11 points clear of sixth-placed Brighton with four games remaining. With the top five teams qualifying for next season’s Champions League, United need two more points to confirm their return to Europe’s elite competition after a two-year absence.<\/p>\n
“He’s [Carrick] an amazing coach, I’ve said this many times,” striker Sesko said after scoring his 10th league goal of the season against Brentford.<\/p>\n
“He’s brought different energy. Also, the way we’re doing in the training, it’s unbelievable and of course, I would like to have him here.” Carrick, who took charge on an interim basis in January after Ruben Amorim was sacked, has received public backing from United players, including Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo.<\/p>\n
Experienced Brazilian midfielder Casemiro has scored nine Premier League goals this season, including the opener against Brentford.<\/p>\n
“He’s (Casemiro) a working machine,” said Sesko. “What he’s putting on the pitch is unbelievable. You need someone like this.”<\/p>\n
Manchester host arch-rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.<\/p>\n
And former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has no doubt Carrick will secure the job full-time after a series of \u201csensational results\u201d.<\/p>\n

Interim boss Carrick has now overseen nine wins in 13 games since taking charge in January and Carragher expects his former England team-mate to keep the job.<\/p>\n
The former Liverpool defender said on Sky Sports: \u201cHe\u2019s going to be the Manchester United manager, certainly next season, no doubt about that \u2013 and you can\u2019t say he doesn\u2019t deserve it.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are absolutely sensational results. They\u2019re the results of title-winning team, or a team going for the league.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow I know that pressure isn\u2019t on Manchester United right now, they haven\u2019t got European fixtures, all these other things will come into it, but I don\u2019t think anybody could have come in and done any better results-wise.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Carrick believes Bruno Fernandes should be in the mix for the Premier League player of the year award after his 19th assist of the season.<\/p>\n
Fernandes is now one shy of the Premier League record of 20 assists in a single season, jointly held by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry, after setting up Benjamin Sesko for United\u2019s second of the night.<\/p>\n
The Portuguese playmaker was also involved in the first, with Harry Maguire heading his corner back across goal for Casemiro to nod in, and the win means United need only two points from their remaining four league games to secure a return to Europe\u2019s top competition.<\/p>\n
Asked if Fernandes should get individual recognition at the end of the season, Carrick said: \u201cHopefully he does. He deserves it for the impact he has had and the moments he\u2019s created, whether it\u2019s creating or scoring or having other influence within the group. He\u2019s had a big season.\u201d<\/p>\n
Casemiro was named player of the match on the night, and was serenaded by United fans who implored the 34-year-old to reverse his decision to leave the club this summer.<\/p>\n
Carrick reiterated that would not happen with the Brazilian ready to leave four years after joining from Real Madrid.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s pretty clear, from both sides,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Carrick later added: \u201cCas has had an influence within the group, he has got huge experience, he\u2019s a big player and has achieved a huge amount in the game, and he has given everything you can possibly give.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe situation has probably helped that, knowing there is nothing to hide. It\u2019s football, players come and go. You\u2019ve got to evolve and move on. That\u2019s the world we\u2019re in, but he\u2019s given everything and it\u2019s nice he\u2019s got that connection with the supporters.\u201d<\/p>\n
Brentford came to Old Trafford with a clear plan to take United on, and could have caused them far more problems had Igor Thiago not passed up first-half opportunities before Dango Outtara hit a post in the second half.<\/p>\n
United\u2019s second goal came from a Brentford attack, broken up by Diallo, before Fernandes led the counter-attack, and it was ultimately a frustrating night with Mathias Jensen\u2019s curling strike coming too late.<\/p>\n
Defeat leaves Brentford in ninth, but still only two points off sixth placed in the congested battle for Europa League football.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was really happy with how we performed overall,\u201d boss Keith Andrews said. \u201cUnited started the game better than we did, they were dangerous from corner kicks and got the lead from that.<\/p>\n
\u201cI felt after that we calmed down a little bit, we started to take control of the ball a bit better, got to grips with the game, the occasion, and the opposition better and then I thought we were in a good place.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe needed to control transitions better especially in the first half. The second goal was really disappointing, the timing and where we were in the game.
