WHILE tens of thousands of golf<\/a> fans battled online to get their hands on Ryder Cup tickets, Limerick Live can reveal that the people of Adare have quietly landed a much coveted prize – two complimentary tickets each to next year\u2019s showpiece event.<\/p>\n

And, they are able to buy more, with chief Ryder Cup officer Richard Atkinson saying it\u2019s in recognition of the \u201congoing co-operation and support of residents, businesses and community groups\u201d based in the village, home to the tournament host venue, Adare Manor.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a gesture of this appreciation, we would like to offer you two complimentary tickets for the 2027 Ryder Cup, which can be redeemed for any of the days, Tuesday to Sunday,\u201d confirmed Mr Atkinson in a letter seen by this newspaper.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have ringfenced a number of tickets per day for residents, which will be allocated on first-come, first-served basis,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would also like to provide an option to purchase tickets for any day, so you have an opportunity to enjoy the event with family and friends,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The countdown is firmly on to the competition at Adare Manor, which will run from September 13 to 19, 2027.<\/p>\n

There was pandemonium across the Internet on Friday last as tens of thousands waited in virtual queues for the opportunity to attend the centenary tournament.<\/p>\n

More than 150,000 people from across the island of Ireland had pre-registered for this early ticket access.<\/p>\n

The allocation of general admission tickets for the tournament\u2019s event days between September 17 and 19 – at a cost of \u20ac499 per day – was snapped up in just one hour, with the chief officer hailing \u201cunprecedented\u201d demand from across Ireland.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that Irish golf fans are among the most enthusiastic in the world and this is yet another reminder of that,\u201d added Mr Atkinson.<\/p>\n

For people living in Adare, there was joy, with one resident saying: \u201cI have the QR code on my phone. I\u2019m really excited now.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve spoken to my community, my neighbours, who got tickets, and they are equally as excited.\u201d<\/p>\n

In terms of tickets, the focus now switches to the start of June when a full public ballot opens to fans across the globe.<\/p>\n

Local Fianna Fail councillor Bridie Collins has praised the Ryder Cup organisers for affording the free allocation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they are seeing the build-up of excitement within the community. They can see the excitement and the want for this to be a really good event,\u201d said Cllr Collins, who also is chairperson of Adare Tidy Towns.<\/p>\n

As part of the tournament countdown, the voluntary group are launching a drive to rid Adare\u2019s streets of cigarette butts this Thursday lunchtime.<\/p>\n

She said there is an opportunity to really make a big destination out of Adare for the week of the tournament.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople will want to be in and around Adare for the event itself, whether they have a ticket or not, just for the atmosphere. I know they\u2019ve been talking about doing a fanzone in Limerick city, but I\u2019ve been pushing for us to have a fanzone in Adare too, because ultimately you will be able to hear the roar of the crowd in the village.. You will feel part of it, even if you don\u2019t have a ticket to the event,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

While thousands of hotel rooms are already accounted for ahead of the September 2027 tournament, a number of accommodation options are still being formulated.<\/p>\n

A dedicated Ryder Cup camp-site is to be established for \u2018glamping\u2019 opportunities, with sources indicating that tents will be transferred from Electric Picnic in Co Laois to Adare.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, comprehensive Ryder Cup accommodation, transport and ticket packages are being made available at hotels across the country.<\/p>\n
