{"id":423978,"date":"2026-04-29T20:34:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T20:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/423978\/"},"modified":"2026-04-29T20:34:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T20:34:14","slug":"news-irelands-central-bank-to-review-how-investment-funds-report-suspicious-transactions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/423978\/","title":{"rendered":"NEWS: Ireland\u2019s Central Bank to review how investment funds report suspicious transactions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By PAUL O\u2019DONOGHUE, Senior Correspondent<\/p>\n<p>THE Central Bank of Ireland will launch a review examining how funds report suspicious transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the European Anti-Financial Crime Summit (EAFCS) 2026 in Dublin, Patricia Dunne, the regulator\u2019s Director of Horizontal Supervision, warned that the sector carries a high financial crime risk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFunds can be exploited for money laundering and terrorist financing, with the funds sector in Ireland being the subject of international scrutiny from an AML\/CFT perspective given its size and reach,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centralbank.ie\/news\/article\/speech-patricia-dunne-european-anti-financial-crime-summit-29-april-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">she told the event<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a key area of focus for the Central Bank. In 2026 we will be undertaking a thematic review of suspicious transaction report (STR) reporting in the sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cInadequate monitoring of these risks exposes the sector to potential abuse, including breaches of financial sanctions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Dunne also highlighted several other areas of concern for the watchdog.
