Tributes have poured out for a young man who died in a workplace tragedy while operating a mini-digger.<\/p>\n
Brendan Brosnan, who was in his 20s, was reportedly operating a mini-digger machine at a derelict property in Athea, Co Limerick, when a wall or chimney collapsed on top of him.<\/p>\n
Brendan, who is from Meenoline, Templeglantine, Co. Limerick, was found under rubble and sadly died from his injuries.<\/p>\n
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has since confirmed an investigation into the tragic accident.<\/p>\n
In a statement, a spokesperson for the HSA said: \u201cThe Health and Safety Authority is aware of the fatal incident and has launched an investigation into the circumstances.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs such, no further information is available at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking to Limerick Live, local county councillor Liam Galvin said Brendan was an \u201cabsolute gentleman”.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was one of the nicest young fellows you could wish to meet on a day’s walk. He was just a funny, funny boy and well-liked around the town.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was a hard worker and stone mad for machinery. He has been driving tractors since he was a young fellow. Once he got his licence he was up on a tractor and it wasn\u2019t half big enough for him. He could turn his hand to anything and could drive any kind of a machine,\u201d said Cllr Galvin.<\/p>\n
In a statement Knocknagoshel GAA Club said all at the club were \u201cdeeply saddened and shocked to hear of the tragic accident that took the young life of Brendan Brosnan. We extend our deepest condolences to his parents Brendan and Catherine, siblings Christopher, Eoin, Ciara, Aoife, Sin\u00e9ad, Katie, girlfriend Megan, Kathleen and all the Brosnan family of Knockbrack.<\/p>\n
\u201cWords cannot express our sympathy on the loss of Brendan. He was a young man full of life and laughter. Brendan played football with Knocknagoshel underage teams and was a regular at Knocknagoshel games when his father Brendan was playing. The Brosnan family are in our thoughts and prayers at this time,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
