{"id":426056,"date":"2026-05-01T00:17:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T00:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/426056\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T00:17:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T00:17:09","slug":"mayo-minister-confirms-e29m-to-support-jobs-reduce-waste-and-help-communities-reuse-and-repair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/426056\/","title":{"rendered":"Mayo minister confirms \u20ac29m. to support jobs, reduce waste and help communities reuse and repair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/imengine.public.prod.cmg.infomaker.io.jpeg\" alt=\"\" itemprop=\"image\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  The CEO of An Mheitheal Rothar Cathy Coote with Minister of State at the Department of Climate Energy and the Environment Alan Dillon.<\/p>\n<p>\n    Published:<br \/>\n    Thu 30 Apr 2026, 6:24 PM\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment Alan Dillon has today announced over \u20ac29 million in funding to support projects across Ireland that will help communities reduce waste, reuse more, and build a more sustainable local economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">The funding, provided through the Circular Economy Fund, will support initiatives in every region of the country\u2014from community repair hubs and reuse centres to innovative business projects that cut waste and make better use of materials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">This means more opportunities for people to repair items instead of throwing them away, more affordable second-hand goods, and more local jobs in areas such as repair, refurbishment, and sustainable manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">Minister Dillon said: \u201cThis \u20ac29 million investment is about making the circular economy real for people in their everyday lives, whether that\u2019s being able to repair a bike, buy a refurbished appliance, or see less waste in their community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">&#8220;We are supporting practical projects in every part of the country that will help households save money, reduce waste, and create jobs locally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">The Circular Economy Fund will directly support:<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">Community reuse and repair initiatives \u2013 helping people fix and reuse items like bikes, furniture, and electrical goods.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">Local clean-up and anti-dumping projects \u2013 improving neighbourhoods and tackling illegal dumping.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">Food waste reduction programmes \u2013 helping households and businesses waste less food.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">Business innovation \u2013 supporting Irish companies to design products that last longer and use fewer raw materials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">Projects will be delivered by local authorities, community groups, and enterprises across the country, ensuring that both urban and rural communities\u2019 benefit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">A circular economy focuses on keeping materials in use for as long as possible \u2013 through reuse, repair, and recycling\u2014rather than throwing them away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">The Circular Economy Fund is financed through environmental levies on waste and single-use items, meaning money raised from waste is reinvested into solutions that reduce it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ew-body\">Minister Dillon added: \u201cPeople want practical solutions that make a difference in their daily lives.
