This is a common resolution for someone who has shown a \u2060willingness to undergo treatment, the statement said, and typically carries a sentence of \u200c12 \u200cmonths \u200bon probation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A representative for Spears said this month  the singer had voluntarily checked into a rehabilitation \u2060facility. Spears is not required to \u200battend the hearing on Monday. \u200bHer lawyers can appear on her behalf.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A spokesperson for the singer did not \u200cimmediately respond to a request for \u200bcomment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/world\/us\/2026\/03\/06\/completely-inexcusable-britney-spears-arrested-on-suspicion-of-driving-under-the-influence\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/world\/us\/2026\/03\/06\/completely-inexcusable-britney-spears-arrested-on-suspicion-of-driving-under-the-influence\/\">Spears was arrested in March<\/a> after authorities received a report of a \u2060black BMW travelling erratically at \u2060high speed. Officers \u200blocated the vehicle and arrested Spears after observing signs of impairment, the California Highway Patrol said at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Baby One More Time singer had been under a conservatorship that controlled many of her personal and financial decisions for 13 years until a judge released her from the arrangement in 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Fans had launched a \u201cFree Britney\u201d movement \u200cand argued that Spears \u2060did not need supervision. Her family said Spears suffered from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/mental-health\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/mental-health\/\">mental illness<\/a> and the conservatorship was meant to protect her and \u200cher $60 million estate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In 2007, Spears was charged with one count of hit-and-run causing property damage \u200band one count of driving without a valid California \u200bdriver\u2019s licence, both misdemeanours.
