Tyla has reflected on her rise to stardom<\/p>\n
\nThe 24-year-old pop star released Water, her chart-topping single, in 2024, and Tyla admits that her life has not been the same since.<\/p>\n
\nTyla told E! News: “That was insane. My life literally flipped on its head. <\/p>\n
\n“It was a lot of adjusting, you know? Because where I’m from in South Africa is very different to everything over here, so that moment changed my whole life, honestly.”<\/p>\n
\nTyla has learned to navigate the music industry by trusting her instincts.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “I just went with what feels good. And now I feel like I’m at a place where I’m really just having the most fun.”<\/p>\n
\nThe singer feels blessed that her music has helped bring amapiano, a genre of music from South Africa, to a global audience.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “Coming from literally the bottom of Africa and my music playing all over the world, it’s like a dream for a lot of people. So, I’m just blessed.<\/p>\n
\n“The music that I make is a mixture of like a lot of different things, and I always felt like it was big, like it was pop. So the fact that it’s getting recognised that way is just amazing.”<\/p>\n
\nOn the other hand, Tyla previously revealed that she felt “trapped” following the success of Water.<\/p>\n
\nShe told The Sun newspaper at a Q and A in London: “For a while, especially last year, I felt so trapped.<\/p>\n
\n“Like, \u2018Oh my word, I blew up and I just have to have everything right and everything has to be perfect now because the world is looking.\u2019<\/p>\n
\n“It was kind of stressful for me.”<\/p>\n
\nDespite this, Tyla thinks having “a little bit of arrogance” has helped her to navigate the stresses of the music industry.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “I just always knew I had something in me.<\/p>\n
\n“I just always had that kind of peace knowing that this is the life I\u2019m gonna live.<\/p>\n
\n“I don\u2019t let anybody or anything limit me or put me in a box. I think I\u2019m just confident.<\/p>\n
\n“A lot of people say arrogant, but I think everyone needs a little bit of arrogance, especially to make it in this industry and to make people believe in your music.<\/p>\n
