A producer who suspected a rising star was walking back a sexual harassment complaint she made to Rebel Wilson<\/a> says she was stuck in a \u201ctricky situation\u201d between Wilson and her other boss.<\/p>\n

Charlotte MacInnes is suing Wilson after starring in the Pitch Perfect actor\u2019s directorial debut film The Deb.<\/p>\n

MacInnes claims she was defamed by Wilson in social media posts that suggested she is a liar and a sellout who withdrew a sexual harassment complaint to advance her career.<\/p>\n

The posts alleged MacInnes confided to Wilson \u2013 but later recanted \u2013 that she felt uncomfortable when the film\u2019s co-producer, Amanda Ghost, asked to have a shower and a bath together.<\/p>\n

The claim hinges on a medical episode suffered by Ghost at Bondi Beach on 5 September 2023, which led to her sharing a bath with MacInnes in their swimwear to warm up.<\/p>\n

Neither the young actor nor a witness had any concern about what took place and did not consider anything untoward happened, the court was told.<\/p>\n

Wilson gave evidence she was shocked by the divulgence and spoke about it that night with The Deb\u2019s local producer, Greer Simpkin, whom she described as very responsible.<\/p>\n

But Simpkin told the federal court on Friday she hadn\u2019t discussed the bath incident with Wilson until a phone call days later.<\/p>\n

She said she didn\u2019t become aware of Wilson\u2019s claims that MacInnes had reported being uncomfortable until a week after the medical episode when she was dining with Ghost.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would have acted on it earlier if I\u2019d known it was uncomfortable,\u201d Simpkin said.<\/p>\n

She subsequently orchestrated MacInnes\u2019 removal from an apartment where she had been staying with Ghost and another woman during pre-production.<\/p>\n

\u201cI asked that the reason be as we discussed that Rebel needs the space by the beach,\u201d the local producer texted Ghost.<\/p>\n

She then met with MacInnes\u2019 agent to ensure the young actor was alright and to reveal the real reason for her eviction.<\/p>\n

In the email tendered to the court, the agent reported back to \u201cmend this misunderstanding\u201d and clarify MacInnes had never been uncomfortable around Ghost, whom she idolised.<\/p>\n

Simpkin forwarded the email to Ghost and noted that the young actor\u2019s version of events was different from those of the producer and another woman who had been present.<\/p>\n

\u201cCharlotte is walking back the statement she made to Rebel,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel there is some fudging being done by Charlotte.\u201d<\/p>\n

The local producer said she didn\u2019t know now what she meant by \u201cfudging\u201d in the email, but she recalled there being differences in the recollections about the bathroom incident.<\/p>\n

Her communications relied on Wilson\u2019s insistence that she did not misunderstand MacInnes\u2019 disclosure, Simpkin told the court.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m in a tricky situation here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cRebel Wilson is my boss, as is Amanda Ghost. I\u2019m trying to be respectful to both parties.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the email formally asserted MacInnes wasn\u2019t uncomfortable and Simpkin considered that to mean the matter was closed.<\/p>\n

She said she didn\u2019t receive any communication from MacInnes to the contrary and was taken by surprise when the alleged complaint was re-agitated by Wilson the following month.<\/p>\n

Wilson has rejected accusations that she fabricated the sexual harassment complaint or raised it for leverage during her disputes with co-producers rather than out of concern for her co-star.<\/p>\n
