Kimmel opened his late-night talk show on Thursday by responding to Trump\u2019s remarks questioning when ABC will fire him, saying he \u201cincompetently presides over one of the lowest rated shows on television\u201d.<\/p>\n
The comments come after the 58-year-old presenter joked that the US first lady, Melania Trump, looked like an \u201cexpectant widow\u201d during a sketch roast of the White House correspondents\u2019 dinner.<\/p>\n
Days later, a gunman attempted to storm the event.<\/p>\n
Trump has since repeatedly pressured US media network ABC to sack Kimmel, and in a post to Truth Social on Thursday he wrote: \u201cWhen is ABC Fake News Network firing seriously unfunny Jimmy Kimmel, who incompetently presides over one of the Lowest Rated shows on Television?<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople are angry. It better be soon!!!\u201d<\/p>\n
The talk show host responded to Mr Trump\u2019s post during his opening monologue on his Jimmy Kimmel Live! programme and said: \u201cOr what?<\/p>\n
\u201cIf incompetently presiding over not just one of, but the lowest rating in history, is the reason I should be fired we should both be out of a job, because you\u2019re not doing too good either.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kimmel also went on to name several US senators and congressmen whom he has previously \u201cmade fun of repeatedly and viciously\u201d on his show, and praised them for not pressuring ABC to fire him due to his jokes.<\/p>\n
He also reflected on Mr Trump\u2019s outspoken attitude against \u201cmuzzling people you don\u2019t agree with\u201d during his presidential campaign and quipped: \u201cI\u2019m starting to think Donald Trump might be a hypocrite.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel added that he and Mr Trump should \u201cfigure this out because it\u2019s getting crazy\u201d and, taking aim at the ongoing conflict between US and Iran, he said: \u201cLet\u2019s see if we can come up with a ceasefire agreement. This could be good for both of us.<\/p>\n
\u201cI get to keep my job, you get to end your 11th war. What do you say? We can help each other.\u201d<\/p>\n
Following his joke that Mrs Trump has the \u201cglow of an expectant widow\u201d, Kimmel has faced backlash from the US president and his wife, with the latter calling him a \u201ccoward\u201d in a post on X on Monday.<\/p>\n
Mrs Trump wrote: \u201cHis monologue about my family isn\u2019t comedy \u2013 his words are corrosive and deepen the political sickness within America.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kimmel responded to the backlash in Monday night\u2019s episode, and said he was sorry that the president and those in attendance at the event went through that traumatic and scary experience.<\/p>\n
The TV host later described the sketch as a light roast and that his widow joke about the first lady was not \u201ca call to assassination\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI agree that hateful and violent rhetoric is something we should reject,\u201d Kimmel said.<\/p>\n
