Unfortunately, stingray injuries are more common than most beachgoers realize.<\/p>\n One woman\u2019s painful run-in is going viral as a reminder that a simple technique could prevent the whole thing. Have you heard of the stingray shuffle?<\/p>\n Woman Steps On Stingray<\/p>\n In a viral TikTok with more than 943,000 views, Brittney Zirkle (@myprettyinfertilelife) documents what happened after she was stung by a stingray at the beach.<\/p>\n \u201cPOV: You step on a stingray, it slices your achilles tendon, and leaves its barb in you\u2026\u201d the text overlay on the video reads.<\/p>\n The video opens with Brittney sitting in a beach chair, her leg elevated. She\u2019s being attended to by what appear to be beach emergency responders, who are working to get her stabilized and onto a golf cart for transport.<\/p>\n \u201cSteve Irwin died, didn\u2019t he?\u201d she says to the responders at one point, referring to another famous stingray injury. However, one of them walks her back from the ledge: Irwin, they explain, was stabbed in the heart by a much larger stingray.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the pain is escalating. \u201cIt\u2019s getting worse,\u201d Brittney says.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, it\u2019s normal to get worse,\u201d a responder confirms. They\u2019re trying to get her an IV line for pain medication, navigating her allergies since she\u2019s extremely allergic to Benadryl, while keeping her calm.<\/p>\n \u201cIt felt like a knife,\u201d she says at one point. \u201cLike someone stabbing me.\u201d<\/p>\n By the end of the video, she\u2019s being transported, treated, and seems noticeably better. She\u2019s talking more easily and sounding less panicked.<\/p>\n The barb landed right on her Achilles tendon. \u201cThat does not look fun,\u201d one of the responders says, getting a look at it.<\/p>\n \u201cI was barely moving too,\u201d Brittney says, still processing how it happened so fast.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is your annual reminder to shuffle your feet when walking in the ocean\u2026\u201d she advised in the caption.<\/p>\n What To Do If You Get Stung By A Stingray<\/p>\n
