A driver was ‘flying’ along the road at a crazy 171km\/h because he was ‘late for an appointment,’ he told Garda\u00ed. Officers have warned there are “no shortcuts” after catching this N-plate driver going at more than 70km over the speed limit in Cork city.<\/p>\n

Cork City Roads Policing Unit were conducting a high-visibility speed checkpoint when the driver came “flying past.” The VW Golf was detected travelling at 171km\/h in a 100km\/h zone.<\/p>\n

When stopped, the driver said he had the foot down because he was running late for an appointment. Garda\u00ed were able to find him a new appointment to worry about – a day in court. He was arrested on the roadside and will have to explain to the court why he was in such a rush.<\/p>\n

Taking to the An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na social media page for Cork, a spokesperson warned against speeding, and said there are “no shortcuts on the road,” no matter the reason. They shared: “Because arriving a few minutes late is a lot better than not arriving at all.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a driver was caught going over 140km\/h by Garda\u00ed on one of Ireland’s most dangerous roads.
