{"id":429632,"date":"2026-05-03T02:41:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-03T02:41:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/429632\/"},"modified":"2026-05-03T02:41:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-03T02:41:14","slug":"controlled-explosion-following-suspicious-discovery-in-letterkenny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/429632\/","title":{"rendered":"Controlled explosion following suspicious discovery in Letterkenny"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Article Updated: 9pm<\/p>\n<p>The army bomb disposal team was called in after a suspicious device was found on the outskirts of Letterkenny on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>It is believed that the item has since been examined &#8211; and experts have established that the device was a flare.<\/p>\n<p>A cordon was established and the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) was summoned after the device was located in the area of Edenacarnan South.<\/p>\n<p>The town land is between Letterkenny and Kilmacrennan and close to Illistrin.<\/p>\n<p>Military vehicles, including the EOD, made their way to the area in mid-afternoon after being drafted in by An Garda Siochana.<\/p>\n<p>The bomb disposal experts responded to the request for assistance at 3.41pm.<\/p>\n<p>Gardai also attended the scene and manned the cordon.
