\u201cWhere is my tiara?\u201d Lila Moss<\/a> asked Conner Ives<\/a> during one of a handful of the Met Gala<\/a> fittings that made her feel like a princess. The dress: an exquisite champagne-colored adaptation of the hip drape gown from Ives\u2019s fall 2026 collection<\/a> (look 28, to be precise), but with a nod to Gustav Klimt\u2019s 1907 oil painting Water Serpents, which mused on the sensuality of women\u2019s bodies, in fitting with the \u201cFashion Is Art\u201d dress code.<\/p>\n

Crafted from three 1920s dresses sourced by Ives in Paris, the entirely sequined gown is made up of gelatin (\u201cthey didn\u2019t have plastic sequins until the \u201930s!\u201d quips Lila, evidently embracing the history lesson of it all), with a hand-dyed silk chiffon base that required seven dye trials to perfect the right shade of taupe. \u201cHe basically built the dress on me,\u201d says Moss of the collaboration, which unfolded during fittings on either side of the Atlantic. In New York, they have basically been roommates at The Mark, with Lila showing off her vintage shopping hauls and Conner hand-beading the final flourishes for both her red-carpet gown and an LBD for the after-party (inspired by John Singer Sargent\u2019s Portrait of Madame X). \u201cHow does your brain work like this?\u201d Moss asked, in awe, each time she stopped by.<\/p>\n

For Ives\u2019s part, he wanted Lila to feel like \u201cthe best version of herself.\u201d The model says the gown\u2019s winged back makes her feel otherworldly\u2014\u201cit\u2019s almost a bit mermaid\u201d\u2014as well as princess-adjacent. The beauty, then, had to feel like Moss\u2014whose Met Gala<\/a> prep included lymphatic drainage, electrolytes, and walking outside in the sun\u2014through and through. Bronzed and shimmering, like the dress itself, Ives did find a way to \u201cConner-fy\u201d Moss\u2019s edgy updo with the help of a clutch of decorative brooches stolen from another vintage dress.
