Gr\u00e1inne of Carrigacurra, Valleymount, Co Wicklow, passed away in the care of staff at Tallaght University Hospital on Saturday, May 2.<\/p>\n
She is survived by her husband S\u00e9amas, her son Connla, daughter Aoife, sisters Br\u00edd and Aislinn, brother Cill\u00edn, grand-daughters Bl\u00e1ith\u00edn and Sadhbh, son-in-law Jarlath and a wide circle of friends.<\/p>\n
Gr\u00e1inne was a former presenter of RT\u00c9\u2019s children\u2019s show Bosco, which was hugely popular in the 1970s and 1980s. It ran for 386 episodes, with production ending in 1987, though re-runs of the show were still aired. She also presented with Se\u00e1n B\u00e1n Breathnach on the Irish language show SBB Ina Shu\u00ed.<\/p>\n
Numerous condolences have been shared through Gr\u00e1inne\u2019s death notice on rip.ie as adults who loved watching the show when they were children paid tribute.<\/p>\n
One condolence message stated: \u201cDeepest condolences to all Grainne’s family and friends.<\/p>\n
“I grew up watching and loving her on Bosco.<\/p>\n
“Sitting with my own mother watching her being so lovely and friendly are the beautiful memories i will have of her. May she rest in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another stated: \u201cMy condolences to the family on Grainne’s passing.<\/p>\n
“Her presenting of Bosco was my first memories in life and it is a sad day all round for kids back then on her passing.<\/p>\n
“Her memory will live on and Grainne will never be forgotten and rest In eternal peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another person left a message which said: \u201cMy sincere condolences to your family and friends, I remember watching and loving the Bosco episodes. I feel like a part of me has moved along with you to the next place. Rest well.\u201d<\/p>\n
80\u2019s child said in their condolence message: \u201cSincerest condolences to the family on the vey sad passing of Grainne.<\/p>\n
“As a 51-year-old man, I have fond childhood memories of Grainne and her colleagues on TV. She brought joy and amazement to me and my generation and for that i say thank you and may you rest in eternal peace.”<\/p>\n
Another Bosco fan stated: \u201cSaddened to hear about Gr\u00e1inne\u2019s death! She was one of my favourite Bosco presenters alongside Philip, Frank, Marian, Mary, Jonathan, Susie, Marcus and many others that brought so many great memories to us children in the 70s and 80s on television!<\/p>\n
\u201cNo doubt she\u2019s reunited with her Bosco colleagues in the wonderful Garden of Eden telling tongue twisters and telling stories.”<\/p>\n
