{"id":434049,"date":"2026-05-05T21:52:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T21:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/434049\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T21:52:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T21:52:10","slug":"documentary-film-featuring-donegal-community-worker-to-be-screened-in-letterkenny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/434049\/","title":{"rendered":"Documentary film featuring Donegal community worker to be screened in Letterkenny"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A documentary film exploring how corporate power shapes policy and public health across the globe and featuring a Donegal community worker is to be screened in Letterkenny later this month.<\/p>\n<p>The Building Safer Letterkenny project is bringing the 2025 documentary film Unmasking Influence to Letterkenny Library on Thursday, May 14 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.<\/p>\n<p>The film is described as a powerful and thought-provoking documentary exploring how corporate power shapes policy and public health across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>Unmasking Influence takes viewers on a compelling journey through the lived experiences of researchers, advocates, doctors, and an investigative journalist who have come to understand, often first-hand, the deeply embedded tactics commercial actors use to influence public health policy.<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegallive.ie\/news\/letterkenny-milford-md\/2076551\/recognition-for-letterkenny-together-community-employment-scheme-after-30-years.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Recognition for Letterkenny Together Community Employment Scheme after 30 years<\/a><\/p>\n<p>From tobacco to food systems, alcohol to pharmaceuticals, infant formula to pesticides, social media to vapes, this film lays bare the forces working behind the scenes to put profit ahead of people.<\/p>\n<p>With evocative music by Tom Chapman and direction, editing and production by director John Kelly, Unmasking Influence combines expert insight with striking visuals to challenge, educate, and inspire.<\/p>\n<p>The executive producers are Dr May van Schalkwyk and Professor Mark Petticrew of the CDRG, LSHTM and the film is funded by Spectrum.<\/p>\n<p>The film has strong links with Ireland and features Donegal based community activist, Paula Leonard, CEO of Alcohol Forum Ireland (AFI).<\/p>\n<p>Alcohol Forum Ireland has been at the forefront of challenging the impact that alcohol industry activity has on policy in Ireland and beyond and its work on the i-Mark (independence mark) has reached charities right across Ireland and has now become a global movement in academia and research.<\/p>\n<p>The film has been well received by Irish audiences; both at its premier in the Irish Film Institute in June and at the first screening in Northern Ireland in October in the Queens Film Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure a seat, booking is strongly recommended.
