\n\tSam Smith<\/a>\u2018s whimsical Met Gala<\/a> look weighed an almost unholy amount, with the singer-songwriter revealing on the red carpet Monday (May 4) just how heavy it was.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpeaking to Emma Chamberlain for Vogue alongside partner Christian Cowan \u2014 who designed<\/a> Smith\u2019s ensemble \u2014 the Grammy winner exclaimed before entering the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City that their black, sparkly robe and matching feather headpiece was \u201cthe heaviest thing I\u2019ve ever worn in my life.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a massive workout,\u201d Smith continued. \u201cIt\u2019s making me alert. It\u2019s like a corset on the shoulders.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIt was Cowan who revealed the exact weight of the \u201cStay With Me\u201d artist\u2019s getup: 52 pounds. <\/p>\n

\n\tWhen taking an up-close look at the multi-textured outfit, it makes sense why it would be so heavy. As revealed on Cowan\u2019s Instagram<\/a>, the sparkles on Smith\u2019s jacket required 255,000 individual crystals and beads and 2,000 hours of hand sewing.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis look is a love letter to the king of fashion illustration, and to my love, Sam,\u201d wrote Cowan, who\u2019s been in a relationship with the vocalist since around 2023.<\/p>\n

\n\tSmith was one of dozens of stunningly dressed celebrities in attendance at this year\u2019s gala, which was cochaired by Beyonc\u00e9, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour. The theme was \u201cCostume Art\u201d with a dress code of \u201cFashion Is Art,\u201d which everyone from Bad Bunny to Sabrina Carpenter, Madonna, the members of BLACKPINK and more put their own spins on for yet another memorable first Monday in May.<\/p>\n
