My favorite Hunxho<\/a> story is that he used to have a shattered heart tatted on his face\u2014until he had it redone into a healed heart. That\u2019s the same energy that has made the Atlanta crooner one of the faces of the pain rap generation\u2014extremely popular and bruised balladeers with forefathers like Boosie<\/a>, Kevin Gates<\/a>, and Lil Durk<\/a>\u2014but with a deeper focus on romance and a slightly lighter touch than his fellow sadboys Rod Wave<\/a> and Toosii<\/a> (who, by the way, is currently a 26-year-old college freshman<\/a> on the LSU football team). With a deadpan delivery heavy on Auto-Tune, Hunxho\u2019s wounded lullabies are like if Future became an advocate for therapy after Honest<\/a>. He\u2019s a man determined to right his wrongs, on a growth journey that has given him the perspective to become something like a gloomy Hitch for the TikTok era.<\/p>\n

Hunxho writes like the ideal bachelor on Pop the Balloon<\/a>: In touch with his feelings and Christian; committed to hyping up women and giving them lots of expensive gifts. \u201cIt\u2019s like God made you to look good without makeup,\u201d he sings over the 21 Savage<\/a>-assisted snap&b of \u201cIf Only<\/a>.\u201d If whoever you\u2019re cuffed to is having a bad day, I bet sending them a Hunxho lyric or two would make them feel a little better. Personally, I\u2019d go with his affirmation-dense verse from \u201cLook in the Mirror<\/a>\u201d: \u201cEven when they not proud, I\u2019m so proud\/You beautiful even on the inside, let your soul smile\/And I know you been workin\u2019 hard and, girl, you\u2019r\u0435 so tired\/But you know you can talk to God and it be alright, it be OK.\u201d Boyfriend of the year material.<\/p>\n

He means well, but the music also happens to be so serious and humorless\u2014lots of dreary pianos and Hallmark-card affection\u2014that I can\u2019t help but find it extremely goofy and hilarious. I get a real kick out of \u201cShe From<\/a>,\u201d a track about hooking up with girls in different states, with ChatGPT puns like, \u201cShe from Hawaii, Aloha, girl, have my son\u201d and \u201cShe my main, but she from Maine,\u201d because he\u2019s so deadass about it. (He should\u2019ve binged a few Bourdain episodes.) I\u2019m a fan of when he lilts, \u201cYou look good in blonde, girl, I\u2019m fond of you, very pretty\u201d on \u201cOnly Play This at 3 AM<\/a>,\u201d because it sounds like he\u2019s flirting at gunpoint, though that\u2019s just Hunxho being Hunxho. On \u201cCome Home,\u201d he puts the moves on an ex by telling her he wants to love her like her grandma, giving her therapy updates, and informing her that he likes to watch her IG Reels. It\u2019s all very true to the way people text and express their feelings in modern relationships, but it\u2019s ridiculous to hear in song form.<\/p>\n
