{"id":434926,"date":"2026-05-06T10:05:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T10:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/434926\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T10:05:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T10:05:11","slug":"global-stocks-surge-on-iran-peace-hopes-and-ai-euphoria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/434926\/","title":{"rendered":"Global stocks surge on Iran peace hopes and AI euphoria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">By Gregor Stuart Hunter and Harry Robertson<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">SINGAPORE\/LONDON, May 6 (Reuters) &#8211; Stocks leapt as oil prices dropped on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump touted the &#8220;great progress&#8221; that has been made towards a peace agreement with Tehran, while momentum in AI-driven trades \u200caccelerated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Trump said he would briefly pause an operation dubbed Project Freedom escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz, which carries about \u200ca fifth of the world&#8217;s oil and liquefied natural gas; it has been blockaded by Iran since late February, triggering a global energy crisis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Brent crude, the global benchmark, fell 3.2% \u200bto $106.40 per barrel. That helped stocks to push higher after a rally on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Europe&#8217;s STOXX 600 index jumped 1.5% in morning trading after climbing 0.7% a day earlier. MSCI&#8217;s All-Country World Index climbed 0.7% to a fresh record.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Meanwhile, futures for the S&amp;P 500 rose 0.3%, a day after the index rallied 0.8% to hit its latest record high, driven by strong company earnings and excitement about <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:artificial intelligence;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;artificial intelligence&quot;}\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">&#8220;It seems equity investors are still looking to put money \u200cto work and are jumping on positive-sounding news \u2060from the Gulf,&#8221; said Chris Turner, head of global markets at ING.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">&#8220;The prospect of a permanent peace deal remains highly uncertain, however, and oil looks set to remain very volatile.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Although stocks have rallied sharply in recent weeks, oil \u2060and bond markets are pointing to a potentially large impact on the global economy from the conflict.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Oil prices remain almost 50% higher than when the conflict began in late February. Yields on 10-year U.S. Treasuries, which set the tone for borrowing costs around the world, have risen around 40 basis points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">AI RALLY DRIVES ASIAN \u200bSTOCKS \u200bHIGHER<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan jumped 2.9%.
