{"id":436157,"date":"2026-05-07T02:54:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T02:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/436157\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T02:54:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T02:54:13","slug":"matt-shakman-directing-new-planet-of-the-apes-movie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/436157\/","title":{"rendered":"Matt Shakman Directing New &#8216;Planet of the Apes&#8217; Movie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t20th Century Studios is returning to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/planet-apes\/\" id=\"auto-tag_planet-apes_1\" data-tag=\"planet-apes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Planet of the Apes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/matt-shakman\/\" id=\"auto-tag_matt-shakman_1\" data-tag=\"matt-shakman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Shakman<\/a>, who directed Marvel Studios\u2019 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/fantastic-four\/\" id=\"auto-tag_fantastic-four_1\" data-tag=\"fantastic-four\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fantastic Four<\/a>: First Steps, has been tapped to helm a new installment of the long-running sci-fi property, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJosh Friedman, who co-wrote First Steps as well as Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will write the new script.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn a twist worthy of an astronaut seeing the Statue of Liberty on a seashore, the new feature project will not be a sequel to Kingdom, which made $397.3 million worldwide and is generally considered a success. Kingdom was a continuation of the trilogy produced starting in 2011 that rebooted the franchise and focused on the rise of the ape leader known as Caesar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tA sequel to Kingdom was talked about but it is not clear where things stand with that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tRick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who were producers on the previous Apes films, are back on this one, joined by Shakman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tExec vp of production Scott Aversano will be overseeing for 20th Century\u00a0Studios.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFriedman is a go-to scribe for 20th Century as in addition to Kingdom, he also co-wrote the blockbusters\u00a0Avatar: The Way of Water\u00a0and\u00a0Avatar: Fire and Ash films for the studio. He is repped by UTA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShakman gained attention for his work on Marvel Studios\u2019 WandaVision. He also helmed the pilot for Apple\u2019s Godzilla series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDeadline first reported the hiring of Shakman.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"20th Century Studios is returning to Planet of the Apes.
