{"id":439470,"date":"2026-05-08T23:53:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T23:53:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/439470\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T23:53:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T23:53:08","slug":"limerick-minor-footballers-ready-for-all-ireland-championship-bid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/439470\/","title":{"rendered":"Limerick minor footballers ready for All-Ireland Championship bid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ppsfinancial.ie\/contact-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/PPS_ad_GAA-1778181489400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"317\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>AFTER a disappointing Munster campaign that saw them fail to reach Phase 2, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/245\/sport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick<\/a> minor footballers are back in action this weekend as they enter the All-Ireland \u2018Tier 3\u2019 Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Garrett Noonan\u2019s side face an away trip to Laois in\u00a0 the preliminary quarter-final on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The Midlands county lost their three group games in the Leinster Championship, suffering defeats to Kildare, Louth and Meath.<\/p>\n<p>Noonan\u2019s side got the year off to an encouraging start, defeating Tipperary by five points in March. This was however, to be the only Munster football championship match won by a Limerick side across minor, U20 or senior level in 2026 at inter-county level.<\/p>\n<p>The minors were indeed unfortunate not to add to their tally with narrow one-point losses against Clare and Waterford.<\/p>\n<p>So there are encouraging signs that this is a competition that Limerick can give a real rattle to.<\/p>\n<p>The unknowns about opposition aside, this Tier 3 Championship offer a platform for the young \u2018Treaty\u2019 players to showcase their abilities and potentially be in the mix for a rare shot at an All-Ireland title.<\/p>\n<p>By the time they line out at the weekend, it will have been over a month since their last competitive fixture. However, there is rare momentum behind Limerick football.<\/p>\n<p>If they are to claim national honours, they will need to claim four wins on the bounce. Already in the competition, Leitrim defeated New York last month.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, both Scoil Mhuire agus \u00cdde Newcastle West and Castletroy College secured Munster U15 schools titles.<\/p>\n<p>Castletroy\u2019s success in the \u2018B\u2019 competition is all the more impressive when you factor in that only four schools entered the \u2018A\u2019 championship.<\/p>\n<p>In the course of this Munster PPS Championship, Castletroy defeated big names in Munster schools football including Corn Ui Mhuiri schools Clonmel High School and Presentation Secondary School Miltown.
