People seeking mental health or\u00a0addictions\u00a0support in Saskatchewan can now\u00a0search for specific assistance via the province\u2019s website<\/a>, the government announced Friday.<\/p>\n

Under the \u201cmental health, addictions<\/a> and other facilities\u201d tab on the site, users can filter their query based on their individual needs. Access to various types of addictions services, including inpatient, outpatient and transitional varieties, is available. Detoxification and rehabilitation providers are also listed.<\/p>\n

Mental health services are sub-categorized with group programs and long-term residential aid available, among others.<\/p>\n

Supports\u00a0for youth\u00a0who are struggling with their mental health or addictions can also be\u00a0sought.<\/p>\n

\u201cSearch by service meets people where they are often on their phones looking for help, and makes that moment easier, clearer, and more supportive,\u201d said Derek Miller, the chief operating officer at the Saskatchewan Health Authority.<\/p>\n

It was developed based on consistent feedback heard from patients, families, and providers, Miller added.<\/p>\n

This addition to Saskatchewan\u2019s website is part of its five-year action plan on addictions and mental health, which is in its third year.<\/p>\n

The site does not show the current availability of beds or other services in a clinic. This means users must call clinics they are interested in, but by year five of the plan, the website should have that ability.<\/p>\n

Adding the search function, and ensuring it works well, has been a months-long process, according to the provincial mental health minister. She said feedback will be critical to ensuring it meets users\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt seems like a\u00a0relatively simple\u00a0concept.\u00a0And it should be, but when we talk about the information as people are applying to go into treatment\u00a0centres\u00a0and different things, we\u00a0have to\u00a0take into consideration privacy,\u201d said Mental Health and Addictions Minister Lori Carr.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s\u00a0a lot of stuff that will be happening in the background to ensure that\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0protecting the privacy of individuals while ensuring that\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0getting the\u00a0services that they need.\u201d<\/p>\n

The site\u2019s new function is completely independent from the\u00a0Compassionate\u00a0Intervention\u00a0Act to allow forced treatment<\/a>,\u00a0Carr\u00a0clarified.<\/p>\n

Bill 48 was passed,\u00a0prompting mixed reactions<\/a>,\u00a0earlier this week.<\/p>\n
