{"id":439581,"date":"2026-05-09T01:34:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T01:34:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/439581\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T01:34:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T01:34:19","slug":"wall-street-giants-lead-china-profit-surge-despite-market-polarisation-uneven-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/439581\/","title":{"rendered":"Wall Street giants lead China-profit surge despite market polarisation, uneven recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Overseas-invested securities firms collectively saw income from their China businesses skyrocket in 2025, as combined net profits climbed more than fourfold from a year earlier to 2.65 billion yuan (US$390 million), according to their annual reports.<\/p>\n<p>However, while the industry\u2019s bottom line surged last year \u2013 fuelled by China\u2019s <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/economy\/china-economy\/article\/3314751\/chinas-private-firms-back-drivers-seat-regulations-ease-goldman-sachs?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">lifting of capital restrictions<\/a> and a rebound in the capital market \u2013 the individual performances of firms showed a widening gap in scale.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">A South China Morning Post review of annual reports from all of China\u2019s 13 overseas-invested securities firms \u2013 out of 119 securities in total \u2013 found that seven still ended the year with losses.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">On a solely revenue basis, Goldman Sachs (China) Securities returned to the top of the leaderboard. Its China unit generated 2.48 billion yuan, overtaking 2024\u2019s leader, Shengang Securities.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Shengang, the first brokerage established under the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement between mainland China and Hong Kong, posted revenue of 1.99 billion yuan last year. J.P. Morgan Securities (China) and UBS Securities followed with 1.88 billion yuan and 1.81 billion yuan, respectively.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Goldman attributed its revenue performance in China \u2013 having nearly equalled the total net profits from all 13 overseas-invested securities firms \u2013 to a strong rally in the nation\u2019s A-share market in 2025.
