{"id":439591,"date":"2026-05-09T01:40:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T01:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/439591\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T01:40:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T01:40:09","slug":"limerick-recruits-among-those-who-joined-as-new-recruits-for-the-shannon-airport-search-unit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/439591\/","title":{"rendered":"Limerick recruits among those who joined as new recruits for the Shannon Airport Search Unit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EIGHT new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/233\/business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">recruits<\/a> have joined the Airport Search Unit (ASU) in Shannon Airport.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new ASU officers completed a comprehensive four-week training programme.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Their training covered\u00a0the operation of\u00a0Shannon Airport\u2019s three dimensional screening system, cabin baggage search techniques, manual handling and sunflower hidden disability awareness.<\/p>\n<p>The programme was delivered in-house, combining theory and hands on, practical experience, with certification completed by the Irish Aviation Authority.<\/p>\n<p>Hailing from County Clare and neighbouring counties Limerick, Tipperary and Cork, the recruits bring with them a wide range of customer service experience from retail and hospitality, as well as from other roles within the airport, including ground handling.<\/p>\n<p>The recruits received their official certificates at an event welcoming them to the\u00a0Shannon Airport\u00a0team.<\/p>\n<p>READ ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/crime-and-courts\/2078540\/legal-position-of-a-disabled-parking-bay-called-into-question-at-district-court-hearing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Legal position of a disabled parking bay called into question at district court hearing<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the event,\u00a0Pat O\u2019Brien, chief officer of\u00a0Shannon Airport police, fire service and security, said:\u00a0\u201cOur ASU officers play a vital role at\u00a0Shannon, both from a security and a customer experience perspective. They are often the first point of contact for passengers and are a key part of how well our airport operates.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want to congratulate today\u2019s newly certified officers and thank them, along with Jean Moloney, deputy chief security officer, and our instructors Richard Chute and Julia Shortt, for the commitment and professionalism shown throughout the training programme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Screening supervisor and instructor Richard Chute\u00a0added:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s an intense four weeks, but this group did exceptionally well. The role really suits people from all walks of life who enjoy working with others and helping passengers feel at ease.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The new officers have already worked really well together, and we\u2019re looking forward to seeing them out on the floor now as part of the wider ASU team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The appointment of the new officers comes as passenger demand continues to grow at\u00a0Shannon Airport.
