{"id":440755,"date":"2026-05-09T19:09:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T19:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/440755\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T19:09:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T19:09:14","slug":"wind-farm-firm-challenges-refusal-of-its-plan-for-new-facility-in-limerick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/440755\/","title":{"rendered":"Wind farm firm challenges refusal of its plan for new facility in Limerick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT WILL be An Coimisi\u00fan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/231\/planning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Plean\u00e1la<\/a> which decides on whether a wind farm planned near Coolcappa village can go ahead.<\/p>\n<p>It comes after the firm behind the proposals, Ballynisky Green Energy appealed against Limerick City and County Council\u2019s decision to refuse planning permission for the project.<\/p>\n<p>The firm is seeking permission to construct six wind turbines with an overall height of 158 metres close to the village.<\/p>\n<p>The rotors are projected to measure 136 metres wide, while work to facilitate the wind farm would see around 3.4km of new site access tracks constructed.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/planning\/2073542\/early-medieval-cashel-found-on-corridor-of-planned-limerick-to-foynes-road.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Early Medieval cashel found on corridor of planned Limerick to Foynes road<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Adare-based energy firm is seeking permission to develop the structures over 10 years, then have them operational for 35 years.<\/p>\n<p>But the application drew more than 400 objections, with concerns around the appearance of the turbines in the local skyline, health, noise and the impact it could have on local biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p>Local planners refused permission last month.<\/p>\n<p>However, Ballynisky has put in an appeal to the national planning authority, which has set a date of August 25 next to make a decision.<\/p>\n<p>Agents for the company have stated the council\u2019s grounds for refusal are \u201cunfounded\u201d and \u201ccan be rebutted in full\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>They say the applicant was not afforded a chance during the planning process to address noise queries.<\/p>\n<p>It is \u201cnot considered\u201d, they believe, the project would have an impact on noise.<\/p>\n<p>The agents rejected a suggestion from the council the application lacked information around the impact on local roads.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/community\/2073432\/decision-made-on-plans-for-major-upgrade-of-community-centre-in-limerick.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Decision made on plans for major upgrade of community centre in Limerick<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe development was designed in compliance with the Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) design and safety requirements and the application document contains detailed and proportionate assessments addressing sightlines, stopping distances, haulage routes and transport loads,\u201d the firm\u2019s agents wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe matters identified in the refusal were capable of resolution through clarification or appropriate conditions and did not justify refusal in these circumstances,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Ballynisky confirmed the appeal.<\/p>\n<p>The Coolcappa Community Action group said it had anticipated the appeal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe group is continuing to work with independent experts and will shortly provide guidance for community members who wish to make a further submission,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT &#8211;
