\n\tSlipknot<\/a>\u2019s M. Shawn Crahan says he will need heart surgery after being diagnosed with a cardiac condition following the metal band\u2019s recent tour.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 56-year-old percussionist, better known as Clown, shared the news during an appearance on Rick Rubin<\/a>\u2019s Tetragrammaton podcast, which was posted to YouTube<\/a> on May 7.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the wide-ranging interview, Crahan \u2014 Slipknot\u2019s sole remaining founding member \u2014 explained that he sought medical attention after not feeling well following the tour, where doctors discovered an issue with his heart\u2019s electrical system.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI have a skipping heart and I got to get a surgery,\u201d Crahan told Rubin. \u201cI found this out after my last tour. I went in, I wasn\u2019t feeling good, and I went in and the nurse was trying to get an EKG thing going on and it just wasn\u2019t happening. I kind of fell asleep and I woke up. I\u2019m like, \u2018Are you going to get this thing?\u2019 And she\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, it\u2019s not working.\u2019 They thought I was having a heart attack right there. My heart skips and apparently I\u2019ve taught myself to be like a cross-country runner.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe musician said the condition affects his heart rate significantly, describing sudden drops that leave him feeling unwell.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m overweight and my brain is so strong that it tells this stuff what to do,\u201d he continued. \u201cMy standing heart rate at night is 43 and during the day I get down to 33. Hasn\u2019t happened since I\u2019ve been here with you, which is good, because I\u2019ll go from \u2018on,\u2019 to just straight up I feel like I\u2019m dying. I got to get a surgery. It\u2019s a very easy surgery. You\u2019re usually out on the same day. It\u2019s not like they rip you open. This is something about the electricity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tClown also recalled briefly thinking he might need a pacemaker, joking that it could have been an easy way out of touring, but said his doctor instead told him it would likely improve his condition.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI just I lost it. I was like, I can\u2019t get out of this to save my life,\u201d Crahan joked. \u201cI\u2019m like, there is nothing, not even my heart. It\u2019s going to be better because of Slipknot.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe percussionist added that he now has access to specialized medical care due to his career, and said doctors expect him to improve with treatment.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI got a concierge doctor because I\u2019m in Slipknot and I\u2019m able to go to levels and they\u2019re like, \u2018No, you\u2019re going to feel better. You better get in shape because you got to do more now at 56,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s just like I just can\u2019t believe it, man, that this was me. It\u2019s wonderful. I\u2019m lucky.\u201d<\/p>\n
