{"id":443540,"date":"2026-05-11T16:53:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T16:53:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/443540\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T16:53:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T16:53:08","slug":"cork-locals-object-to-councils-go-ahead-for-bus-drop-off-area-at-pairc-ui-chaoimh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/443540\/","title":{"rendered":"Cork locals object to council&#8217;s go-ahead for bus drop-off area at P\u00e1irc U\u00ed Chaoimh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Locals have hit out at <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/maintopics\/cork-city-council_topic-5074397.html\"> Cork City Council<\/a> proposals to amend its development plan to permit a new bus drop-off area at P\u00e1irc U\u00ed Chaoimh, saying they have seen no reason it should be permitted.<\/p>\n<p>In a series of submissions featuring similar language, residents of nearby areas have written to the council in recent weeks to \u201cstrongly object\u201d to the plans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe support the planners&#8217; reports to refuse permission and have seen no published report on why this decision has been overturned,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\n            P\u00e1irc U\u00ed Chaoimh has been consistently shown to be incapable of the proper management of traffic to and from the stadium, particularly for smaller events \u2014 and this will be no different.\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Last year, the operators of the sporting ground submitted a planning application for the new set-down\/drop-off area at the city end side of the stadium, accessed from Monahan Road, next to the 4G astroturf pitch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They said the proposals aimed to \u201cimprove and enhance the overall operation and management of the stadium\u201d and \u201cimprove the stadium\u2019s integration and integration with the emerging Marina Park\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It also said the plans would be of benefit not only to the GAA but also as an &#8220;important asset&#8221; to Cork City as a whole, while also contributing positively to the Cork docklands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In late March, Cork City Council signalled its intention to green-light the plans, despite the area being designated as a \u201cpublic open space\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In order for permission to be given, the city\u2019s development plan will have to be materially altered as the proposals \u201ccontravene materially\u201d the objectives of this plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Public consultation<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The proposals were put out to public consultation, prompting over a dozen submissions from locals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">After this four-week period has elapsed, it falls to the council chief executive to present a report to councillors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Councillors will then have to pass a resolution to grant the planning permission, with three-quarters of them needed to vote in favour for it to pass.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In its own submission to the consultation, Coakley O\u2019Neill Town Planning \u2014 on behalf of applicant P\u00e1irc U\u00ed Chaoimh CTR \u2014 aimed to reassure councillors of the merit of the proposals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cCouncil members can be assured that the proposal will not result in any pronounced loss of usable public open space, rather it will help P\u00e1irc U\u00ed Chaoimh develop its existing facilities to a continued high standard of other stadia throughout the country and across Europe,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201c[They can be] satisfied that a negative planning precedence will not be set, and assured that the current development plans will not in any way be undermined.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Locals have hit out at Cork City Council proposals to amend its development plan to permit a new&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":443541,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[5658,1964,79,42,43,16456,40,38,41,39],"class_list":["post-443540","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-headlines","tag-irish-examiner-instagram","tag-cork-gaa","tag-cork-news","tag-headlines","tag-news","tag-public-transport","tag-top-news","tag-top-stories","tag-topnews","tag-topstories"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/443540","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=443540"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/443540\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/443541"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=443540"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=443540"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=443540"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
