\n\tOscar-winning actress Juliette Binoche<\/a> says intimacy coordinators<\/a> are not the sole component prerequisite for a good performance.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a new interview with The Guardian<\/a> tied to the release of her v\u00e9rit\u00e9 documentary In-I In Motion<\/a>, the Parisian-born director and performer was asked about her take on the relatively new role.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve been approached about that,\u201d she said (with an eye roll, per the interviewer). \u201cThe vocabulary is all: \u2018Are you agreeing that he touches this?\u2019 The body becomes a puzzle!\u201d The Queen at Sea star added she \u201cof course\u201d understands that safeguards can be useful for less seasoned actresses, but maintained she\u2019s glad her film opts for a more intuitive approach. \u201cOur film goes against what is being said today,\u201d Binoche said with a smile. \u201cAnd I like it!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBinoche, who will soon be seen in Merci Charlotte, continued: \u201cIt\u2019s not as simple as having an intimacy coordinator on set. When you\u2019re in a love scene it needs to come from the heart, the guts, the need. And so if you\u2019re thinking of the movement you\u2019re going to do and not of the feeling, you\u2019re in a bad situation. When you\u2019re embodying lovers, you overcome some fears of touching bodies. You really have to go beyond your comfort zone because otherwise you become a prude and not truthful to what\u2019s happening in life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actress is among a chorus of stars veteran and new who have discussed their nuanced takes on the job, which cropped up largely in response to the #MeToo movement and numerous anecdotes from women about on-set impropriety and sexual misconduct. Recently, Florence Pugh<\/a>, Dakota Johnson<\/a>, Jennifer Lawrence<\/a> and Kate Winslet<\/a>, among others, have offered their thoughts on the role.<\/p>\n

\n\tElsewhere in The Guardian piece, Binoche weighed in on another hot topic \u2014 AI in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m not thinking about it too much,\u201d she said in response. \u201cThey were saying that painting was going to disappear because we had cameras, or that theater was going to die when cinema arrived. So I don\u2019t think you should be worried. It\u2019s called\u00a0artificial\u00a0intelligence.
