{"id":446146,"date":"2026-05-13T04:56:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T04:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/446146\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T04:56:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T04:56:13","slug":"male-had-643-images-and-27-videos-of-child-sex-abuse-cork-court-told","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/446146\/","title":{"rendered":"Male had 643 images and 27 videos of child sex abuse, Cork court told"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">A 23-year-old man entered a plea of guilty to possession of child sex abuse imagery at Cork Circuit Criminal Court today (May 12)<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Detective Garda Brian Morris of the Garda Protective Services Unit charged Giovanni Caroto of Ploverfield, Cullen, Mallow, County Cork, with the charge which came before the circuit court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Defence barrister Brian Leahy asked for the accused to be arraigned on the single charge against him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This count stated that on November 1 2022 at his home in Mallow he was in possession of child pornography, namely 643 images and 27 video files.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Giovanni Caroto pleaded guilty to that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Leahy, barrister, asked for a pre-sentencing probation report stating that the accused was suffering various addiction problems at the time and had no previous convictions of any kind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Judge Helen Boyle said that given the nature of the case she would need a risk assessment of the defendant and that it would be appropriate for this to be carried out by the probation service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Leahy also asked for a free leal aid to be extended for the purpose of a psychologist\u2019s report on the defendant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Judge Boyle adjourned sentencing in all of these circumstances until November 18.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A 23-year-old man entered a plea of guilty to possession of child sex abuse imagery at Cork Circuit&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":446147,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[79,54,61,60,43],"class_list":["post-446146","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ireland","tag-cork-news","tag-courts","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/446146","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=446146"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/446146\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/446147"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=446146"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=446146"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=446146"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
