{"id":446857,"date":"2026-05-13T15:08:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T15:08:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/446857\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T15:08:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T15:08:20","slug":"food-watchdog-issues-major-recall-of-chicken-from-several-retailers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/446857\/","title":{"rendered":"Food watchdog issues major recall of chicken from several retailers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several retailers have issued recalls of chicken products due to possible salmonella contamination.<\/p>\n<p>The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued recalls for several chicken products from Lidl, Aldi, Dunnes, Supervalu, Centra and Tesco due to possible presence of salmonella.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Batches of Lidl 100% Irish Chicken Breast Fillet products, diced and free range, were recalled due to the confirmed presence of salmonella; other products are being recalled out of precaution \u201cdue to the possible presence of salmonella\u201d by the FSAI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The recall covers own-brand chicken products, Manor Farm, and Western Brand, such as the \u2018Inishella\u2019 range.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause foodborne illness. Infections are usually transmitted through contaminated water or food, particularly poultry, eggs, and unpasteurized milk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">People infected with salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include abdominal cramps, fever, and headaches. The illness usually lasts four to seven days.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Although the implicated batches are past their use-by dates, the products are suitable for home freezing. Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the batches concerned.
