A young woman in her 20s who died in a two-vehicle collision in north Tipperary on Tuesday evening has been named locally as Laura Kennedy.<\/p>\n
Ms Kennedy died in a road traffic crash involving two cars on the Nenagh to Dromineer Road R495, near Nenagh, which occurred at approximately 9pm on Tuesday May 12.<\/p>\n
A section of the road remained closed for technical examination on Wednesday. Laura was the driver of one of the cars and was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
Her body was later taken to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course. The coroner has been notified.<\/p>\n
Ms Kennedy is understood to be from the Ballywilliam area, and was widely known as an excellent athlete, and enjoyed music. Her grandparents are from the area where the accident occurred.<\/p>\n

Laura and her twin Aishling excelled at sport, particularly cross country and camogie, and she played with Burgess Duharra Camogie GAA Club and Tipperary development camogie squads.<\/p>\n
There was a sense of shock and disbelief in the area, said one local person familiar with the situation. Ms Kennedy was related through her mother\u2019s side to Tipperary senior hurler Willie Connors, a family renowned for their athleticism.<\/p>\n
Mr Connors, from nearby Killadangan, won an All-Ireland Senior Hurling medal last year when Tipperary enjoyed a resounding victory over Cork.<\/p>\n
Any road users, who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling on the Nenagh to Dromineer Road R495, between 8.15pm and 9.15pm on Tuesday, May 12, are asked to make this footage available to investigating garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n
