Katie McCabe will be moving to pastures new after Arsenal confirmed that the Republic of Ireland captain will leave the club at the end of the season.

The Dubliner has made over 300 appearances since joining the north London giants from Shelbourne in 2015, winning the Women’s Champions League last year and the Women’s Super League in 2019.

The 30-year-old’s contract was due to expire at the end of the current campaign and with no agreement in place to extend it, speculation had grown that McCabe would not be retained.

In a statement on Thursday, Arsenal announced her impending departure and thanked McCabe for her service.

“Over more than a decade at Arsenal, Katie has made a significant and lasting contribution to the history and success of our football club,” director of women’s football Clare Wheatley said.

“Katie has led with passion and commitment, giving everything for the badge and forging a special bond with our supporters. She departs as a club legend and we are so proud of our shared journey together.”
