The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft is scheduled\u00a0to lift off\u00a0at\u00a06:05\u00a0p.m. EDT\u00a0aboard\u00a0a\u00a0Falcon 9 rocket from\u00a0Space Launch Complex 40 at\u00a0Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.<\/p>\n

Filled with\u00a0nearly 6,500\u00a0pounds of food, supplies, and equipment, Dragon will arrive at the orbiting outpost\u00a0at\u00a0approximately\u00a07\u00a0a.m.\u00a0Sunday, May 17,\u00a0and dock autonomously to the\u00a0forward\u00a0port of the\u00a0orbiting laboratory\u2019s\u00a0Harmony module.<\/p>\n

In addition to cargo for the crew aboard the space station, Dragon will deliver several new experiments, including a project to determine how well Earth-based simulators<\/a>\u00a0mimic microgravity conditions, a bone scaffold<\/a>\u00a0made from wood that could produce new treatments for fragile bone conditions like osteoporosis, and equipment<\/a>\u00a0to help researchers evaluate how red blood cells and the spleen change in space. The Dragon spacecraft also will carry a new instrument to study charged particles<\/a>\u00a0around Earth that can\u00a0impact\u00a0power grids and satellites, an investigation that could provide a fundamental understanding of how planets form<\/a>, and an instrument designed to take highly accurate measurements<\/a>\u00a0of sunlight reflected by Earth and the Moon.<\/p>\n
