Amazon MGM Studios announced that its search for the next lead of the iconic spy franchise has officially begun. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe search for the next James Bond is underway,\u201d Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement<\/a> Thursday. \u201cWhile we don\u2019t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we\u2019re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.\u201d <\/p>\n According to Variety<\/a>, the studio has been auditioning actors for the last few weeks and has tapped \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d and \u201cStar Wars\u201d sequel trilogy casting director Nina Gold for the process. <\/p>\n The new actor will take the baton from Daniel Craig, who wrapped his five-film tenure as James Bond with the 2021 film \u201cNo Time to Die<\/a>.\u201d Craig also starred in \u201cCasino Royale\u201d (2006), \u201cQuantum of Solace\u201d (2008), \u201cSkyfall\u201d (2012) and \u201cSpectre\u201d (2015). <\/p>\n \u201cDune\u201d director Denis Villeneuve will helm<\/a> the next Bond movie, the 26th installment of the franchise, from a script written by \u201cPeaky Blinders\u201d creator Steven Knight. Amy Pascal and David Heyman are producing<\/a> the project and Tanya Lapointe will executive produce. <\/p>\n It was announced in February 2025 that the longtime Bond custodians, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, had made a deal that gave Amazon MGM Studios creative control<\/a> of the franchise. The MI6 agent with a license to kill was one of the main attractions for the e-commerce giant when it acquired MGM<\/a> in 2022. <\/p>\n Speculation has been rampant over the years about who might take over the 007 role from Craig. Among the names the rumor mill has coalesced around at one time or another are Idris Elba<\/a>, Tom Holland<\/a>, Aaron Taylor-Johnson<\/a>, Jacob Elordi<\/a> and Callum Turner<\/a>. <\/p>\n Elba has previously said that he got turned off<\/a> from the idea of taking on the Bond mantle when the response to the rumors \u201cbecame about race.\u201d \u201cSpider-Man\u201d actor<\/a> Holland, meanwhile, brushed off the speculation<\/a> last year, saying \u201cWe\u2019ll get there one day.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Diamonds are forever \u2014 but an actor\u2019s James Bond tenure never is.
