Almost \u20ac93,000 has been raised for Jimmy Crowley in just three days, with the Cork singer\u2019s partner saying he will now be able to return home rather than having to go into a nursing home.<\/p>\n
Mr Crowley revealed on a \u201clast resort\u201d Go Fund Me page, that he was last year diagnosed with stage three oesophageal cancer, and then had a debilitating stroke last December.<\/p>\n
He has been in the stroke ward at Cork University Hospital since then, and has seen many setbacks and complications, including several falls which necessitated surgery, leaving him mostly wheelchair bound. Doctors told Mr Crowley that he could only return home if he had a second long term carer to look after him alongside his partner Eve, otherwise he would have to go into a nursing home.<\/p>\n
His partner Eve told The Echo: \u201cAll we want is for him to be able to come home and stay home for the time he has left.<\/p>\n
\u201cJimmy is quite a private person and he normally wouldn\u2019t share something like this, but he\u2019s been forced to,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Eve said the couple have been amazed with all the support they have received since the appeal.<\/p>\n
Posting an update on the GoFundMe page at the weekend, after the initial fundraising target of \u20ac15,000 had been passed, she said: \u201cWe\u2019re so overwhelmed by the donations here.<\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe\u2019re at a loss for words, to be honest. Thanks to you all, we will be able to afford a live-in carer, and Jimmy will be able to come home!\n <\/p>\n
