Coronation Street<\/a> has given fans a glimpse of what to expect as newcomer Idris Nazir comes to Weatherfield. Played by Junade Khan, the newcomer and newest member of the Nazir family is set to arrive on the ITV soap next week.<\/p>\n

Khan previously starred as Ash Roy in Hollyoaks<\/a> and has also appeared in Game of Thrones, Waking the Dead, and In Another Life.<\/p>\n

A new trailer teases Idris’ arrival, with him wasting no time in surprising his cousin Alya, impressing Brody Michaelis, annoying Daniel Osbourne, and casting a spell over Leanne Battersby<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ahead of his first episode on Tuesday 26 May, producer Kate Brooks said of Idris: “He is very, very charming, the charm oozes out of every pore of this guy. <\/p>\n

“He\u2019s a savvy kind of business guy, he’s got a bit of a ruthless streak, he is prepared to get his hands slightly dirty, and he can charm the birds from the trees.”<\/p>\n

She continued: “He\u2019s a new love interest for Leanne. The attraction is instantaneous. It kind of gives Leanne a new lease of life. She\u2019s been harbouring a deep-rooted resentment towards Toyah and Nick, because that’s the life she had. <\/p>\n

“This guy comes along, he’s got it all, he makes her laugh. He’s funny, he’s handsome, and he ruffles a lot of feathers, but he’s not without an edge. <\/p>\n

“He\u2019s not soft, and he’s certainly no pushover. He butts heads with some of our more alpha kind of characters quite early on.”<\/p>\n

Despite joining the cast as Idris, this isn’t Khan’s first appearance in Corrie, having previously appeared as Saj in 2008, a love interest for Rosie Webster.<\/p>\n

He said: “I joined Corrie for a very short stint as a love interest for Rosie Webster. She\u2019d been kidnapped by John Stape, and we met in a nightclub. <\/p>\n

“My character was called Saj, though Helen Flanagan called me ‘Sarge’ which was funny! I remember being in the Rovers with Sally, Gail, and Carla. <\/p>\n

“Coming back now, I saw Alison King and said, ‘I\u2019ve seen you before!’ It\u2019s a bit surreal, but it feels right to be back.”<\/p>\n

Describing his character, he added: “He\u2019s multi-layered and incredibly ambitious. As a child, he suffered a lot of hardship and neglect, so he\u2019s had to overcome those obstacles entirely on his own. <\/p>\n

“He\u2019s a lone wolf – the black sheep of the family who has made a name for himself. He\u2019s addicted to success and the finer things in life, but there\u2019s a real vulnerability there, too. <\/p>\n

“It\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve played a character where I can show that side, which is a great gift for an actor.”<\/p>\n

Khan also elaborated on Idris’ fiery romance with Leanne, continuing: “They actually recognise each other from a family wedding where they sat at the same table. The connection is instant. <\/p>\n

“He likes Leanne because she\u2019s ‘real.’ He\u2019s used to flashy people, but when he sees Leanne fending off a group of guys who aren’t paying their bill, he sees a strength in her that he admires. <\/p>\n

“It reminds him of his own mother, who raised him as a single parent. He sees a strength in Leanne that he probably wishes he\u2019d had in his own life. <\/p>\n

“Working with [Leanne actor] Jane Danson has been amazing; even on her day off, she came in to meet me. She\u2019s really made this experience special.”<\/p>\n

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX<\/a>.<\/p>\n
