\n\tIt turns out ABC<\/a> wasn\u2019t quite done with its 2026-27 lineup.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe network has given a straight-to-series order for a Grey\u2019s Anatomy spinoff set in Texas for next season. Series creator Shonda Rhimes<\/a> and showrunner Meg Marinis<\/a> are the co-creators and writers of the new, as yet untitled series.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe series will be the third spinoff of Grey\u2019s, after Private Practice and Station 19. The show will follow the team at a rural West Texas medical center \u2014 \u201cthe last chance for care before miles of nowhere,\u201d according to the show\u2019s logline. The original series, meanwhile, is headed into its 23rd season in the fall.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI am incredibly excited to expand the\u00a0Grey\u2019s Anatomy\u00a0universe,\u201d said Marinis. \u201cThis opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from\u00a0Grey\u2019s\u00a0for more than two decades \u2014 all set in my home state of Texas.\u00a0I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tRhimes and Marinis are co-writing the spinoff, marking Rhimes\u2019 return to the Grey\u2019s world as a writer. She and her Shondaland company remain based at Netflix under a big overall deal, but the new series will further expand the world Rhimes created. The spinoff will likely premiere in 2027; there\u2019s no word yet on whether any current (or former) Grey\u2019s characters will move to the new show. <\/p>\n

\n\tShondaland and 20th Television will produce the spinoff. Rhimes and Maranis executive produce with Betsy Beers and Grey\u2019s star Ellen Pompeo. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Texas-set Grey\u2019s offshoot joins another spinoff, The Rookie: North<\/a>, in ABC\u2019s lineup for 2026-27.
