Toy Story 5 has announced two beloved radio presenters for voice roles in the UK version of the upcoming Disney and Pixar sequel<\/a>, seeing the toy gang led by Woody and Buzz Lightyear against digital devices aimed at kids.<\/p>\n

The animated film, set to be released in cinemas next month, stars BBC radio hosts Sian Welby and Jordan North in voice cameos as Inflatable Flamingo and Garden Gnome, respectively. <\/p>\n

Joining the film’s stacked voice cast for the UK version, Welby and North are set to star alongside Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, both reprising their roles as Woody and Buzz. Joan Cusack also returns as cowgirl Jessie, with Toy Story newcomer Greta Lee voicing frog-shaped tablet, Lilypad.<\/p>\n

Speaking on her role onToy Story 5, Welby said: “The characters and world of Toy Story have formed such an iconic part of so many people’s childhoods, including mine, so being part of the journey has been a dream come true!”

North echoed the sentiment, saying: “Being part of Toy Story 5 is a pinch\u2011me moment. I grew up loving these films, so getting to join the gang is pretty surreal and special.” <\/p>\n

Last year, Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton, who also co-wrote the script with Kenna Harris, addressed criticism aimed at the franchise<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Nobody’s being robbed of their trilogy. They can have that and never watch another if they don’t want to. But I’ve always loved how this world allows us to embrace time and change. There’s no promise that it stays in amber,” the writer-director, who co-wrote all previous Toy Story films, told Empire<\/a> in November. <\/p>\n

Stanton discussed the sequel’s premise, saying the film would deal with the impact of technology in our everyday lives, but wouldn’t necessarily make tech “the villain”.<\/p>\n

“Honestly, it’s not even really about a battle so much as the realisation of an existential problem: that nobody’s really playing with toys anymore,” he said. <\/p>\n

“Technology has changed everybody’s lives, but we’re asking what that means for us \u2014 and to our kids. We can’t just get away with making tech the villain.”<\/p>\n

Toy Story 5 is released in cinemas on 19 June.<\/p>\n
