There have been a few early glimpses into the Steam Frame outside of Valve\u2019s official marketing material. Media outlets and creators have had experience after devkits started to be sent out<\/a> late last year. The lead developer of Godot XR<\/a> was most impressed by its lightweight build, and now, another reviewer has praised the Frame\u2019s level of comfort.<\/p>\n

We still don\u2019t know when Valve will release the Steam Frame<\/a>, but that doesn\u2019t stop those with hands-on experience from sharing some insight. The upcoming VR headset is part of a trio of Steam hardware launches happening this year \u2013 we\u2019ve already seen the Steam Controller launched, and the Steam Machine & Steam Frame are expected<\/a> to follow soon enough.<\/p>\n

Valve\u2019s new Steam Frame is a comfortable VR headset<\/p>\n

VoodooDE, a German reviewer who specializes in virtual reality hardware, recently noted in a post on X<\/a> that he had removed Steam Frame imagery from the account at the request of Valve. This is despite not signing any kind of NDA. It doesn\u2019t stop the reviewer from providing a few opinions on the headset. He says the comfort of the headset is \u201cthe best I had so far!\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

They also claim that it\u2019s much more comfortable than the Meta Quest 3<\/a>. For comparison, the Steam Frame weighs in at a total of about 440 grams, while the Meta Quest 3 is approximately 515 grams. If you\u2019re a glasses wearer, VoodooDE notes that this isn\u2019t a scenario he has tested yet. On the bright side, Godot XR\u2019s Bastiaan Olij has previously said \u201cit\u2019s fine\u201d while wearing glasses, and Valve has already revealed plans to offer prescription lenses \u201cahead of launch\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A comparison of the Steam Frame versus Valve\u2019s last headset, the Index, has been making waves online, too<\/p>\n

VoodooDE says the \u2018nearly final unit\u2019 he tested was not actually a headset assigned to him, so it has presumably been shared by a friend. There has been discussion online regarding the legality of sharing a devkit, though we\u2019ll have to wait and see if Valve takes any action against the German reviewer.<\/p>\n

At the very least, VoodooDE complied with Valve\u2019s image\/video takedown request, despite sharing some tidbits about the device ahead of its official release. On the topic of the release date, he says he has \u201cno idea\u201d about when it will be commercially available \u2013 only adding \u201chopefully soon\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n
