\n\tIn one of the most exciting projects unveiled at Cannes, Jenna Ortega<\/a> is set to play the lead role in the \u201cLily May B,\u201d the anticipated next film by visionary French auteur Leos Carax<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tSlated to start shooting in Spring 2027, \u201cLily May B\u201d will mark his follow-up to \u201cAnnette,\u201d a bold musical romance starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard which opened Cannes in 2021 and won him a best director award.<\/p>\n

\n\tCarax\u2019s seventh feature, \u201cLily May B\u201d will pair for the first time Carax with Ortega, one of Hollywood\u2019s fastest-rising young stars following her breakout success with \u201cWednesday\u201d and Tim Burton\u2019s \u201cBeetlejuice Beetlejuice.\u201d Ortega also led successful installments of the \u201cScream\u201d franchise, and has increasingly moved toward the art house world in recent roles \u2014 including this year\u2019s Sundance player \u201cThe Gallerist\u201d opposite Natalie Portman. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe project comes from one France\u2019s top producers, Hugo S\u00e9lignac of Chi-Fou-Mi Productions, a Mediawan banner which is at Cannes with a total of five films (including Jeanne Herry\u2019s Palme d\u2019Or contender \u201cGarance\u201d and Quentin Dupieux\u2019s \u201cFull Phil\u201d). \n\tBased on a cryptic synopsis, the film could be described as a dystopian, surreal road movie: \u201cOnce upon a time, there was a little girl, a young woman and a young boy. They each held a secret too heavy to bear. They met in an end-of-the-world world, and together rode a big motorcycle through empty cities, deserted freeways, immemorial forests. On their journey, they encountered many dangers, but kept going. In search of who they were; in search of a place to B, maybe?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCarax, whose singular body of work includes cult classics such as \u201cHoly Motors\u201d and \u201cLes Amants du Pont-Neuf,\u201d offered an enigmatic tease for the project, saying \u201cOnce upon a time, this is what destroyed us, and this is what kept us alive.\u201d The art that Carax has provided above indicates that the film will have a heightened and dreamlike visual style in the same vein as his previous work. <\/p>\n

\n\tS\u00e9lignac, whose credits include critically acclaimed crowdpleasers such as \u201cBeating Hearts\u201d and \u201cAll Your Faces,\u201d said teaming with Carax had long been a personal ambition. \u201cTo me, Leos Carax is one of the reasons I fell in love with Cinema,\u201d Selignac said. \u201cHaving the chance to embark on this first journey alongside him means a great deal to me. \u2018Lily May B\u2019 carries forward his singular vision with the freedom, raw emotion, and visual power that are uniquely his.
