Hundreds of Irish jobs are under threat at Meta. There are currently 1,800 employed at the company in Ireland, with 350 of those jobs reported to be at risk.<\/p>\n
It’s understood Meta plans to cut 8,000 jobs globally, which is approximately 10% of the company\u2019s workforce.<\/p>\n
The company has not yet commented on how the cuts may impact its Irish operation.<\/p>\n
However, RT\u00c9 sources report that the timelines and processes of any potential redundancies will follow Irish law and Government guidelines, and that Meta will comply with all its legal requirements.<\/p>\n
It was previously reported that job cuts were going to occur soon and that the thousands of open jobs Meta had advertised would also not be filled.<\/p>\n
News of the reported cuts come after Meta increased its in spending on AI. Reuters has reported that any potential cuts will be accompanied by a change in it’s organisation structure and improvements to the company’s AI workflows.<\/p>\n
Speaking to RT\u00c9, Minister for Enterprise, Peter Burke, said: \u201cMy message is very clear to employees in Meta.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst of all the Government will have your back. We will support you to gain employment again.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a very vibrant employment market right now, about 2.83 million people employed and particularly in the skill sets that many have in Meta and the IT sector, there is a huge demand in the wider economy for those skills.<\/p>\n
“Any additional training that is needed will be given by the Government.<\/p>\n
“I acknowledge that it is very distressing when you have an uncertain future, when you get news of this magnitude but the government will work with you to support you and to grow your career path.<\/p>\n
“Any support that families who are getting this news will need will be given by the government right across skills and supports which will be critically important.\u201d<\/p>\n
