\n\tMarine Atlan\u2019s \u201cLa Gradiva\u201d claimed the top honor at the 65th edition of Critics Week<\/a>, winning the Ami Paris Grand Prize, while Aina Clotet\u2019s \u201cAlive\u201d won the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe section, which is curated by Ava Cahen<\/a> and runs parallel to the Official Selection, is dedicated to first and second films. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLa Gravida\u201d marks the feature debut of Atlan, an accomplished cinematographer. The sun-soaked melodrama charts a French class trip to Pompeii, where teenagers explore its ruins and the bodies petrified by the Vesuvio\u2019s eruption in 79 AD. \u201cLa Gravida\u201d was co-written by Atlan and Anne Brouillet whose script previously won the Grand Prize at the 2024 Fondation GAN. The pair had collaborated before on \u201cGreen Romances\u201d\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cDaniel.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cViva,\u201d Spanish actor and director Aina Clotet\u2019s debut film, stars as Nora, a 40-year-old woman who is consumed with a need to feel alive and dives into passionate relationships with two very different men whose opposing natures reflect her own inner conflict. The film shot in Catalan, Spanish, English and French languages. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA Girl Unknown,\u201d Zou Jing\u2019s searing portrait of abandoned young girls in China, won the Gan Foundation Award for Distribution; while \u201cDua,\u201d the sidebar\u2019s first even entry from Kosovo, won Blerta Basholli and Nicole Borgeat the SACD Award. <\/p>\n

\n\tPresided over this year by Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia, whose film \u201cAll We Imagine as Light\u201d won the Grand Prize at Cannes in 2025, the 65th edition of Critics\u2019 Week opened for the first time with an animated feature, Phuong Mai Nguyen\u2019s \u201cIn Waves\u201d which was just bought by Netflix for global rights. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe section closed with F\u00e9lix de Givry\u2019s \u201cGoodbye Cruel World,\u201d featuring Milo Machado-Graner, the breakout star of \u201cAnatomy of a Fall.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe competition spanned Europe, Mexico, Asia and the Middle East, as well as Kosovo and Yemen (with Sara Ishaq\u2019s \u201cAl Mahatta\u201d). <\/p>\n
