\n\tDance<\/a> music isn\u2019t going anywhere in 2026, at least not on Madonna<\/a>\u2018s watch.<\/p>\n

\n\tAhead of her highly anticipated Confessions II album \u2014 aka the long-awaited follow-up to 2005\u2019s Confessions on a Dance Floor \u2014 the Queen of Pop made a declaration Wednesday (May 20) on Instagram that the genre she helped pioneer in the mainstream is still alive and well. \u201cIf your Dance floor feels dead,\u201d she wrote, \u201cMaybe you\u2019re playing the wrong music.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe icon also included snaps of herself posing in a jacket with a fur-lined collar, her shiny boots on a dance floor, pink gloves in a glam room and more.<\/p>\n

\n\tMadonna\u2019s post may very well have been a general statement without any specific recipient in mind, but that\u2019s not how some people are interpreting it. Many onlookers believe Madge was taking a jab at Charli xcx, who sings on her new song \u201cRock Music\u201d: \u201cI think the dance floor is dead\/ So now we\u2019re making rock music.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOH THE CHARLI SHADE,\u201d one person commented, while others wrote, \u201cBye bye CHARLI\u201d and \u201cThis Charli shade omfg.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBillboard has reached out to Charli\u2019s reps for comment.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe British singer-songwriter\u2019s assertion on \u201cRock Music\u201d followed a banner two-year run built on the success of her 2024 Brat album, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200<\/a> and has been credited with re-contextualizing dance and club music within mainstream pop. But as she works on making an entirely different LP, Charli told British Vogue<\/a> in April, \u201cIf I\u2019d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad \u2026 what\u2019s interesting for me is to bend the possibilities of what my perspective on that could be.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNot everyone has been a fan of the switch-up, but in a series of posts on X<\/a> on Tuesday (May 19), Charli wrote, \u201cif you get me, you get me and if you don\u2019t, you don\u2019t. and thats ok <3\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201ci\u2019m not trying to repel people away or convince people into liking me,\u201d she added<\/a>. \u201ci\u2019m doing what i feel is truthful to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tConfessions II is slated to arrive on July 3. So far, Madonna has dropped two tracks from the project: \u201cI Feel So Free\u201d and \u201cBring Your Love\u201d featuring Sabrina Carpenter, which comes after the pair performed a surprise duet at Coachella in April.<\/p>\n
