At just 15 years of age, Tom Morello<\/a>\u2019s son Roman has developed into quite the formidable guitar player. Back in 2023, the young musician borrowed the 1982 Fender<\/a> \u2018Sendero Luminoso\u2019 Telecaster his father used on Killing in the Name to play the track<\/a> during a Rage Against the Machine<\/a> soundcheck.<\/p>\n

Though stealing him away from Fortnite to play guitar was initially a difficult task<\/a>, Roman Morello ultimately fell in love with the guitar, and his father last year admitted that he\u2019s now the \u201crhythm guitar player in the household\u201d: \u201cI just play some chord progressions, and he shreds over it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

And in a new interview with Guitar World<\/a> magazine, Tom Morello reveals his son has become a \u201ccollaborative partner\u201d on a number of his recent projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s something I\u2019m most excited about, continuing the collaboration with my son, Roman, who has become quite a technical guitarist. He\u2019s been a collaborative partner on a couple of songs, and that will continue. [laughs]<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of my favourite parts about working with Roman is that if we have disagreements, I\u2019m able to send him to his room!\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the interview, the guitarist explains the sheer number of requests he gets from other artists looking for him to add his characteristic chops to their music, but says being a father often gets in the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt happens all day,\u201d he says. \u201cI do a lot of it, too. I\u2019ve donated guitar solos to younger bands. They\u2019re fans of Rage Against the Machine of Audioslave<\/a>, and they want me on their songs.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for why he can\u2019t help out every band that comes across his desk, he goes on: \u201cHey, I\u2019ve got a lot going on! These days, I\u2019m driving my kids to a lot of high school baseball games.\u201d<\/p>\n

Recently, Tom Morello teamed up with metalcore stalwarts Beartooth to contribute music to the latest update of Final Fantasy XIV.<\/p>\n
