A \u201cdynamic and playful\u201d exhibition is coming soon to the Cambridge Artworks gallery on Green\u2019s Road.<\/p>\n
Titled The Wedding of Ellie and Sid, this two-person exhibition will run from 29-30 May, with a special reception event on Thursday, 28 May, at 6-9pm.<\/p>\n

The exhibition has been co-curated by the artists themselves, Eleanor Breeze and Sid White-Jones, after five years of friendship and creative dialogue.<\/p>\n
Each drawing on a longstanding alphabet of visual references, Eleanor and Sid both use found photos as a starting point, working to capture a record of stories that are lost or at risk of becoming lost.<\/p>\n
Items such as family pets, bunches of flowers and ceremonial cakes become \u201cvisual anchors and personal motifs which can be seen repeated time and time again, hinting at the struggle of a process that can never be complete\u201d.<\/p>\n

Both artists use their practice to reinterpret the source material, disrupting a simple reading of the image.<\/p>\n
Eleanor layers her icons like a collage, exploring the way the meaning of images or objects change depending on the context in which they are placed.<\/p>\n
Sid employs an arduous process of physical, chemical, and digital manipulation to place distance between the original media and the new, more painterly images.<\/p>\n

‘The Wedding of Ellie and Sid’ art exhibition at Cambridge Artworks<\/p>\n
In this exhibition, Sid\u2019s anonymous, archival approach meets Eleanor\u2019s personal, populated paintings.<\/p>\n
On what inspired the wedding theme, Sid says: \u201cI\u2019m at a time in my life where all my friends are getting married \u2013 it\u2019s a strange period of constant wedding invites, so I wanted to play with that idea.\u201d<\/p>\n
The artists have worked together before, both part of the team that brought Motion Sickness Project Space to Lion Yard between 2019 and 2021.<\/p>\n
The project reimagined an empty retail unit as a contemporary art gallery for emerging artists from around the UK.<\/p>\n

Eleanor says: \u201cDespite having worked together creatively, this is the first time we\u2019ve exhibited alongside each other.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a chance to draw out some of the overlapping threads in our work, including storytelling and iconography.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Wedding of Ellie and Sid will run from Friday, 29 May, until Saturday, 30 May, and is free to attend.<\/p>\n
