Its latest strategy: sending its bots to boot camp.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Cities across the country are opening huge humanoid robotics training bases, which put robots through their paces in a variety of different scenarios and harvest training data to help manufacturers accelerate their product development.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The biggest of these facilities, located in Beijing\u2019s Shijingshan district, covers an area of more than 10,000 square metres (108,000 sq ft) and will generate over 6 million data points every year, the local government announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>China and the US <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/economy\/china-economy\/article\/3299162\/china-holds-dominant-position-humanoid-robot-ecosystem-analysts?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">are the clear front-runners<\/a> in the emerging humanoid robot industry, which aims to create robots with humanlike bodies that can replace human workers in a range of settings \u2013 from factory floors to nursing homes.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The training bases are designed to address \u201cthe current data shortage\u201d that is holding back China\u2019s domestic industry, according to the local government statement.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The Beijing centre provides 16 specific scenarios for robot training, including settings that mimic a manufacturing facility, a retail outlet, an elderly care centre and a smart home.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In the past, robotics companies collected training data in isolation, resulting in inconsistent quality.
