Wholesale energy fuel prices in Ireland rose by more than 42% over the past year, according to new figures released by the Central Statistics Office on Friday.<\/p>\n
The CSO said energy fuel prices also jumped by 32.6% in April alone, driven largely by sharp increases in fuel oil and gas oil costs.<\/p>\n
Fuel oil prices rose by 50.1% during the month and are now at their highest recorded level since the CSO began tracking the data in 2021.<\/p>\n
Wholesale electricity prices also continued to rise.<\/p>\n
The CSO said electricity prices increased by 1.9% in April and were 18% higher than the same month last year.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the figures, CSO statistician Deirdre Toher said wholesale price inflation increased during April.<\/p>\n
\u201cWholesale price inflation showed an increase in April 2026 with a 0.2% growth in the overall Producer Price Index for manufacturing industries in the month,\u201d Toher said.<\/p>\n
She said domestic producer prices were also higher than a year earlier.<\/p>\n
\u201cProducer prices for products sold on the domestic market were 3.4% higher in April 2026 compared with April 2025,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The latest figures also showed rising costs across several sectors linked to everyday goods and construction.<\/p>\n
Food producer prices increased by 1% over the year, while fish and fish products saw one of the sharpest increases, rising by 8.6%.<\/p>\n
Chemicals and chemical products rose by 11.9%, while fabricated metal products increased by 5%.<\/p>\n
Construction costs also continued to climb.<\/p>\n
The CSO said wholesale prices for construction products rose by 0.4% in April and were 2% higher than a year earlier.<\/p>\n
The Building & Construction Index, which includes both materials and wages, increased by 2.7% over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n
Despite the recent increases, electricity prices remain well below the peak levels recorded during the energy crisis in 2022.<\/p>\n
