A protracted round of bidding featured contributions from the likes of Mark McStay and a team that included Ken Condon. However, the decisive bid eventually came from Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__1__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cI\u2019m slightly surprised we had to push that far, but she was the one filly here that really got my imagination going,\u201d Boman said. \u201cWe work very hard as a team and spend a lot of time looking at every aspect, but certain horses you see really capture your attention and she was one of those from the second I saw her in the pre-breeze.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__2__GlideArticleBody\">Asked to expand on what had piqued his interest, Boman said: \u201cThere\u2019s her colour to start with, she\u2019s pretty hard to miss! She\u2019s got those lovely big ears, she\u2019s a quality filly. I went to look at her in the pre-parade ring and you could see she was having a good look at everything and taking it all in.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__3__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cShe\u2019s not just a five-furlong filly. She\u2019s got a massive stride, her time was very good, she sustained it the whole way and galloped out very well. She\u2019s a filly who\u2019ll get seven furlongs. They\u2019re hard to buy but I\u2019m delighted we got her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__4__GlideArticleBody\">The filly was bred and offered by Tally-Ho Stud and is out of a Zebedee half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Fairyland. There are also several notable breeze-up graduates in the pedigree, as the dam is also a half-sister to the Group 2-winning and Group 1-placed Now Or Never. The mare has done a good job and is unlucky not to have left a stakes winner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__7__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cStarman is going from strength to strength. The Tally-Ho stallion machine is flying. They\u2019re a great group of people and I couldn\u2019t be happier to buy a horse of that standard from them. She\u2019ll stay in Ireland and go to Joseph O\u2019Brien.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__8__GlideArticleBody\">While this year\u2019s European breeze-up market has mostly struggled to match the giddy highs of 12 months ago, trade at Fairyhouse bucked the wider trend to produce record-breaking results across the board.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__9__GlideArticleBody\">Turnover hit \u20ac12,066,500, which was up four per cent year-on-year, despite 21 fewer lots being offered this time around. The average price increased by 13 per cent to \u20ac62,200. The median, so often the most illustrative metric, was even more robust, improving 31 per cent to \u20ac42,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__10__GlideArticleBody\">The clearance rate, which was highlighted as a priority beforehand, finished at 88 per cent, a mark unmatched elsewhere on this year\u2019s circuit. Some 221 lots were offered and 194 found a new home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__12__GlideArticleBody\">The intensity of trade built as the session progressed, so much so that the \u20ac360,000 mark was hit for a second time as evening rolled around. Michael Donohoe, standing with Emmet Mullins, made a determined play for Rockfield Farm\u2019s St Mark\u2019s Basilica colt but had to give best to a buying team from Saudi Arabia who signed the ticket in the name of Abdul Rahman Saeed Al Sayed. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__13__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cMaybe we\u2019ll leave him in England,\u201d said the purchaser\u2019s representative. \u201cWe have so many friends who are trainers, but maybe Richard Hannon. This horse\u2019s pedigree is very good, he\u2019s a good-looking horse and he did a good breeze.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__14__GlideArticleBody\">The colt, whose dam is a half-sister to the high class One Voice, was knocked down to Mark Grant at 75,000gns at last year\u2019s December Yearling Sale.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Starspangledbanner colt puts Horan on another planet<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__16__GlideArticleBody\">A handful of lots later Anthony Stroud and BBA Ireland\u2019s Michael Donohoe clashed over a well-related Starspangledbanner colt from Jerry Horan\u2019s Ballynure Park Stud. The former party landed the spoils at \u20ac325,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__17__GlideArticleBody\">The youngster was making his second appearance at public auction having been picked up by Horan\u2019s Paragon Bloodstock for \u20ac36,000 at last year\u2019s Arqana October Yearling Sale. The popular pinhooker described himself as \u201cshell-shocked\u201d after receiving the hefty windfall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__18__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cHe had a lot of fans in fairness, but when they\u2019re at that level you\u2019re never quite sure where they\u2019re going to land,\u201d Horan said. \u201cIt\u2019s savage. It\u2019s a rollercoaster following the bidding, you\u2019re on a different planet when they get to that level. It\u2019s brilliant though.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__19__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cHe was a good scopey horse as a yearling and I just like the sire, liked the pedigree so I said I\u2019d take a chance on him. He\u2019s found everything very easy all year. I\u2019m delighted it\u2019s all come together. I\u2019ve only really been treading water at the other sales so it\u2019s great to get a twist out of him just to keep me out of trouble.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__20__GlideArticleBody\">The colt is a sibling to two winners, including the Listed-placed Baraniya. The dam, the Aga Khan-bred Balansiya, also gained black type when runner-up in the Group 3 Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial on the second of her two racecourse outings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Anthony Stroud: 'He did a very good breeze and we're very happy to have him'\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"fill\" style=\"position:absolute;height:100%;width:100%;left:0;top:0;right:0;bottom:0;color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.racingpost.com\/_next\/image\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fs3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com%2Fprod-media-racingpost%2Fprod%2Fimages%2F169_1008%2F2eea4702ede7-lot-212-starspangledbanner-tattersalls-22526-11.jpg&amp;w=3840&amp;q=75\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Anthony Stroud: &#8216;He did a very good breeze and we&#8217;re very happy to have him&#8217;Credit: www.healyracing.ie<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__22__GlideArticleBody\">There is plenty of bold black type further back in the pedigree, particularly US Grade 1 form thanks to the presence of 2012 Secretariat Stakes scorer Bayrir and the Donnacha O\u2019Brien-trained Balantina, who struck in last year\u2019s Breeders\u2019 Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__23__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cHe was very wisely bought as a yearling and they\u2019ve done extremely well with him,\u201d said Stroud. \u201cHe did a very good breeze, he was very impressive and we&#8217;re very happy to have him.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__24__GlideArticleBody\">Although last year\u2019s high mark of \u20ac580,000 had not been threatened during the first 175 lots to be offered, the market proved much more robust than at other sales this breeze-up season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__25__GlideArticleBody\">Reflecting on trade at Fairyhouse, Stroud said: \u201cOf all the breeze-up sales I\u2019ve been to, this is the strongest in terms of depth through the middle and lower tiers of trade. Whether it\u2019s ITM or Tattersalls, they\u2019ve done a very good job of getting people in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bumper result for Dubawi Legend<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__27__GlideArticleBody\">Two lots brought \u20ac300,000 apiece, led by a colt from the debut crop of Starfield Stud stallion Dubawi Legend. James Ryan from Hill of Allen Stud struck the winning bid while standing beside trainer Robson Aguiar.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__28__GlideArticleBody\">The colt was another offered by Tally-Ho Stud and had been pinkhooked by the O\u2019Callaghans at \u20ac23,000 at last year\u2019s September Yearling Sale.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__29__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cHe did a lovely breeze and comes from a very good consignor who has sold a lot of very good horses over the years,\u201d said Ryan. \u201cWe\u2019ll take him home, take it nice and slow and see how we get on.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__30__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cWhen they breeze as well as that you kind of know what they\u2019re going to make, but he\u2019s a nice horse so hopefully he\u2019ll be on the racecourse soon. The well-bred Night Of Thunder colt was offered by Joey Logan\u2019s Grangeclare outfit having been pinhooked at 165,000gns last October.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__33__GlideArticleBody\">The colt is out of Birdie Num Num, a daughter of Siyouni, meaning this colt is bred on the same cross as Zeus Olympios and Fairy Godmother.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__34__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cHe\u2019s a beautiful horse,\u201d said Keatley. \u201cThe cross says everything; he\u2019s a proper horse for the backend. The sire is unbelievable. We haven\u2019t had any by Night Of Thunder before but we\u2019re very glad to get him. He\u2019s for an owner in the yard.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tradewinds score with St Mark\u2019s Basilica colt<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__36__GlideArticleBody\">Tradewinds Stud pulled off one of the day\u2019s bigger touches when a St Mark&#8217;s Basilica colt picked up for 26,000gns realised \u20ac230,000 to the bid of Ken Condon, who signed the ticket as Osborne Lodge Racing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__37__GlideArticleBody\">The Cheveley Park Stud-bred youngster is out of Preening, a Listed-winning daughter of Dutch Art.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__38__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cOver the moon,\u201d said Tradewinds\u2019 Alex Power. \u201cI think I just got lucky the day he was bought. You overpay for most things but he was probably bought about right. He\u2019s been an easy horse to sell because I was behind him 150 per cent, and since he was broken in we thought he was a little bit different.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__39__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cHis breeze was class, and whether they\u2019re a five-furlong horse or a mile and a quarter horse, the good ones have that speed. We\u2019re getting guidance from one of the best week in, week out.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__43__GlideArticleBody\">Although the youngster was knocked down to Curragh-based Condon, the handler said this youngster\u2019s future lies in the US having been secured on behalf of owner Jim Tilton.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__44__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cThe sire is doing very well and has obviously created a very good impression,\u201d the trainer said. \u201cEven though this particular horse is a May foal he has a lot of balance and quality and athleticism. Jim has been lucky buying horses here to go to the States. Given a little bit of time I think this will be a lovely horse for the future. He galloped well and has a nice pedigree so everything stacked up. He\u2019ll be trained by Brendan Morris when he gets to the US.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hillen calls on \u2018old pal\u2019 for Starman signing<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__46__GlideArticleBody\">Agent Stephen Hillen said he had not necessarily anticipated being able to purchase what he rated \u201cthe nicest horse here\u201d ahead of the sale, but reacted to a somewhat sluggish start by successfully bidding \u20ac200,000 for Rockfield Farm\u2019s Starman colt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__47__GlideArticleBody\">The youngster, a \u20ac105,000 Goffs Orby pinhook, is out of Offering, a three-parts sister to Group 2-winning siblings Penitent and Supplicant.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Stephen Hillen: 'He\u2019s probably the nicest horse here. He\u2019ll go to Kevin Ryan. He looks like a sprinter and he did a really fast final furlong.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__50__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cHe\u2019s probably the nicest horse here. He&#8217;s big, tall and rangy. He\u2019s probably not quite there physically yet as he looks like he\u2019s going to fill out and develop. He\u2019s got a bit of a sore shin so he\u2019ll have a break now and we probably won\u2019t see him until July or August. Starman is excellent, but a good horse can come out of anywhere and be by anything. If he is any good, being by that stallion is obviously a big bonus, though.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__51__GlideArticleBody\">He added: \u201cI thought he\u2019d make more money but I just got the vibe that the big teams weren\u2019t on him.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Twomey returns to prove source<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__53__GlideArticleBody\">Paddy Twomey made a notable addition to his in-form string when striking an online bid of \u20ac200,000 for Glending Stables\u2019 Sioux Nation filly. The vendor has enjoyed success with the sire\u2019s daughters before, having sold Rockfel Stakes scorer Zanthos to Victorious Forever for \u20ac1,000,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__54__GlideArticleBody\">The same owners were also behind the \u20ac1.1 million signing of another Sioux Nation filly from Roderic Kavanagh\u2019s operation at the Arqana Breeze-Up Sale earlier this month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__55__GlideArticleBody\">Twomey has also enjoyed his share of success training the offspring of Sioux Nation, a run he is hoping will continue with this filly. City Of Memphis, Letsbefrankaboutit and Yellowstone Lake came from this sale and they were all by Sioux Nation, so it&#8217;s great to get another one by him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__58__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cShe\u2019s a nice filly and it&#8217;s great to get her on behalf of Bond Thoroughbreds. They\u2019ve invested a lot of money into the industry in recent times and obviously have a stallion in Maranoa Charlie to try and support. They want speedy fillies and hopefully she can develop into a nice prospect for them.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Timmons swoops for Calyx filly<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__60__GlideArticleBody\">Justin Timmons of Dolmen Bloodstock was another vendor toasting a fruitful trade when his Calyx filly upgraded her price from 55,000gns yearling to \u20ac170,000 juvenile. The winning bid was struck on behalf of Peter Trainor and Mark Dobbin.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__61__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cShe\u2019s a smart filly who breezed very well,\u201d said Timmons. \u201cI think she has the profile that suggests she\u2019s going to be good on the track. We\u2019ve recommended her all along and she\u2019s delivered. We\u2019re happy with that price considering everything that\u2019s going on. There was a lot of interest but you never know, even when the vets come in.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__62__GlideArticleBody\">The youngster was making her third visit to the sales. Her value has appreciated on each occasion having cost Sarah Dempsey \u20ac33,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Well-related Baaeed colt fits the bill for Spiller\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__64__GlideArticleBody\">The second lot to bring \u20ac170,000 was the Baaeed half-brother to Queen Anne Stakes hero Accidental Agent. The colt was bought by the Sarkar Family having been offered Carrigfoyle Stud, whose Danny Murphy pinhooked the youngster for 62,000gns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__65__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cWe thought he was a standout here,\u201d said agent Henry Spiller. \u201cHe did a fabulous breeze, especially for a May foal who\u2019s by Baaeed. He probably shouldn\u2019t be doing that at this stage, but he\u2019s a beautiful horse with a super pedigree. He\u2019ll go into training with Jack Morland.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"Text__66__GlideArticleBody\">\u201cThe Sarkar family are great supporters of myself and Jack, and Daniel Sarkar is part of the team with us. They\u2019re great owners and fantastic supporters of British racing.
